I am thinking about upgrading from my T1i to one of these cameras but I can't decide which to purchase. The 60D is currently on sale here for 1149. The 7D is 1799 but it goes on sale for about $200-$300 off once in a while. I know the 7D is a faster camera and in general better but I am not sure how much betted or if it's worth the extra. I also am not sure how I feel about the fact that it doesn't take SD cards which I like using since my laptop has a slot. Any input?

When do you plan to upgrade???? I've been toying with the same idea (I have the T1i). But I'm gonna hold on until the 70D hopefully gets announced later this year. By then, I'll probably just settle on a new lens I've been eyeing for even longer. I still see a new body in my future though.

Depends on the camera I get lol. If I was to get the 60D I would get it this weekend. If 7D I would watch for it to go one sale. That's another idea I thought of as I wasn't sure when the next camera is coming out or how much it will be. But I also kind of wanted to buy it before Sept to have for our trip to Europe lol

I think which one you choose depends on what you want to get from the camera. They both have basically the same sensor so image quality/ ISO performance is pretty much the same on both. It comes down to features. The 7D is totally worth the extra money to me IF you're going to use the features it has.

I'd wait until the end of July. Canon just announced a new Rebel and is said to be planning more new announcements. Both the 7D and 60D are getting a little old. Even if you do chose to go with one of those after the new announcements, they'll probably be a good bit cheaper.

I love taking pictures and have been trying to get into photography on the side as well.

I am now thinking I will wait cause I don't want to buy the camera just to have it for Europe then have a better one come out the same month and regret it in the long run lol.

What lenses do you have? You may not need to buy your new one with a lens, which would help bring the cost down. I'd decided to buy a new lens, but I still was just wanting a new camera. I ended up getting the 60d (body only) for $806 plus taxes during a very short online sale from a Canadian big box store. I had a Rebel XT before I bought the T1i, and I hadn't liked the compact flash cards, so that was big turn off for me from the 7D. That means I can keep my memory cards that I already have. I also was worried about the weight of the 7D. I figure I'll get the 60d now and a few years down the line I can upgrade again when I get the itch! :rotfl:

I don't think my lense is as good as the ones with the new cameras. I just have the one that came with the T1i. I do have a telephoto zoom lense but it's not able to do close up shots.

Current scuttle-but is that only the new mirrorless will be announced in July and the 70D and 7D replacements won't come until Aug-Sept now. Who knows. As is usually the case with Canon, all bets are off. They tend to keep secrets better than most.

The 18-55 kit lens usually came with the T1i. It's just about as good image quality wise as the 18-135 that's being sold as the kit with the 60D and often the 7D. That said, you do get more reach with that 18-135, and that's pretty handy to have.

My feeling on waiting for the next big announcement... you can buy now and the next big thing comes out the next week. That's just how it is. But if you wait, you could be waiting forever because rumors are just rumors. Really I wouldn't be surprised if the 7D replacement and the 60D replacement both have substantial price increases over the current models. It would go along with what Canon has been doing. But it's all rumors and speculation at this point.

I'm thinking I will wait for the announcement for the 70d and in the meantime to give myself an upgrade I will buy e 18-200mm lens and then just buy the body only when the 70D comes out.
