Hi all,

We are coming over in a couple of weeks from the UK and was wondering if I could damage the camera battery by charging it in America.

In 2010 I damaged my video's battery charging it in America and don't want to make the same mistake with my camera.

Any advice please?

Well I have a few Canon 5D chargers & live in America. Do you think the plugs are the same?

Check the charger and look for the voltage range (typically 120-240) and the frequency, typically 50-60Hz. UK power is 240/50hz, US is 120/60Hz. Most chargers are universal so I would expect yours to be marked 120/240 & 50/60Hz so will be ok to use.

You will most likely need an adaptor to convert the 13 amp 3 pin plug (if that's what is fitted to your charger lead) to the 2 pin US type, most travel shops/airports have these.

I checked my 5D charger for America & it's just as this PP said. Input is 100-240v & output is 8.4v. It's 50/60Hz.
