Venting slightly, but serious issue.

I go to an all girls catholic school, and not everyone in our school is catholic. But I'd say 70% are. It is quite a good school, especially for the area we are in, and because it is over-subscribed, many people take any opportunity to insult the school mostly out of bitterness.

Recently we did a 24 hour fast event for this country in Africa (Not going to attempt to spell it though ) and the event was posted online and in our local newspaper. There was a picture of three girls in my group, one of them is Nigerian, one is Indian and the other is Caucasian.

The comments on the article are DISGUSTING. Racist comments and basically saying that there are no white people in our school? And that none of us our catholic :l

I'll quote a couple..

"I should think Grays Convent pupils have raised £1000 for people in the third world, because most of Grays Convent pupils are now third world immigrants.

Howe long before Christmas and carol singing is band from this Catholic school."
(Lol at the awful grammar!^)

"Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Grays Convent a Catholic religion school? As far as I can see from the picture above, I'd lay money on only one of those three girls are practising catholics, I very much doubt the other two are!!! But then that's probably why the cash went to the third world!"

^ It gave us a laugh, that the one he thought was catholic, due to skin colour, is incorrect. The only catholic one is the girl who is from Nigeria :l

I cannot believe people still pass judgement on people because of the colour of their skin, or think they have a right to live in a MEDC because they are white, or anyone that isn't white, should "go back to where they come from", it is ridiculous!?! Gets on my nerves.

So, do you guys have any racist issues in your communities? I didn't think we did, but obviously we do ;/

Ugh. I hate comments like that.

And yeah, we've got our share up here.

Most notably is one of the columnists for the local paper.

He's all for white women "breeding" to keep the race alive. He's "terrified" of the onset of "Europistan" because of "invading muslims". He's a firm believer that women belong at home and home alone. He's "upset" that he's only got two grandkids and wishes that he had eight or nine (note: he's only got one child).

He's ridiculous. I've written letters to the editor in response, as have several adults that I consider mentors. He's funny to laugh at because he's so ridiculous.

And then there's Ron Figuly. This guy's nutzo. Srsly. If it isn't Christian it isn't right. He's condemned everything from people against the war to gays to people who don't celebrate christmas by attending midnight mass.

I guess I live in a community of ignorance.

The BNP (British Nationalist Party) believe in white supremacy, they don't say that, but they want immigrants out basically. They blame things on the jews and immigrants, it's complicated, but they share similar views to the old Nazi party? But a bit less exagerated. Sadly, we had the head of the BNP trying to be elected as Thurrock (my area's) representative in parliament, thank god he didn't get in.

The two biggest parties in the UK are the Labour Party and the Conservative Party, and then thirdly would probably be the Liberals. I think the conservative believe in 'every man for his-self' more than the labour party. But to be honest, there aren't many differences now. But many working-class folk are skeptical of the conservatives, because a lot of things went wrong with one conservative PM called Margaret Thatcher, lots of high unemployment, and the working-class particularly suffered.

But overall, they are basically all the same now.. obviously some differences, but to the average joe, they are just political parties.

I might sound like i've been living under a rock for a few years, but I didn't know the US has a problem with unemployment atm. I know lots of people are getting layed off because many companies are shutting down due to the economic crisis, because thats happening in Britain too.

I hope the economy will get better soon -.- unlikely, but hopefully.

Unemployment has become a big issue, at least locally for me. More and more of the jobs around here are being held by foreign exchange workers. Now, I'm not saying it's a horrible thing, but the companies hiring them are asking for them instead of the people who are jobless here.

Around where I live, it's next to impossible to get a job. Especially as a teen ager. It used to be that you applied and people would hire you right away for low-wage jobs like bussing tables and running cash registers. But now you literally have to know somebody to get a paying job because so many adults that used to hold other jobs are taking those low-wage jobs that teens used to have. And the problem is some teens need those jobs just as badly as the adults.

To get my job, my friend's mom called in a favour to the supervisor where I work. She literally said "hey, at least let this girl have an interview". Luckily, said supervisor was the mother of another friend and she decided to give me the job (it's $6.50/hour Saturday and Sunday, more on vacation weeks). It's not the type of job that most adults would take.

But I hardly see teens working anywhere anymore. It's all adults working two or three jobs at minimum wage. And those are the ones that are working. I know almost 20 people alone that have no job and are looking for one, but just can't find one. Just the other day I was in Irving paying for my gas and a woman came in with a kid on her hip asking if they were still hiring. The manager said they just filled the position. My aunt just got laid off, too.

America was founded on the idea that everyone should be welcome. We were all immigrants here at one point or another. That's the American dream. We're a melting pot. They want to "purify" America? They would have to leave too. The only true Americans are Native Americans. They are also saying these girls should have donated to a charity in the United States. For one thing, they did this themselves, they should be able to choose wherever they wanted to donate. America is the one of the richest countries in the world. We don't need the money. People in third-world countries do.

I can believe it even though it is not right it happens more often around here. Weve came along way but we still have along way to go. Our school =snd schools around us are general 95% white. On our basketball team we have three minority kids and when we go to certain places they here everything chants using the "N" word people calling them it on the court.

Some people are just stupid. I met this one guy who thought Portuguese and Spanish were the same thing! I can speak Portuguese, so I kind of got angry. How can people think two languages that sound hardly anything alike be the same?
