salt water rinse, liquid benedryl mixed with maalox rinse is great for pain. There is toothpaste that omits some ingredient thought to cause cancre sores. Oragel is good too for the pain. Ice or something cool will help with the swelling.
KANKA=great stuff. You can get it over the counter and the stuff rocks!! Every once in a while my kids will get a canker sore from their braces. It heals it up within a day

Saw treatment recommendations on Dr Oz. He says they typically should only last 3-5 days and yes Milk of Magnesia is good and so isn't putting a wet black tea bag on it. Also alot of toothpaste's are the root cause of canker sores. Try getting one without sodium laurel sulfate in it. Like Tom's of Maine toothpaste.

Toothpaste is a direct cause of canker sores. I have been a sufferer for YEARS. I finally got fed up with the docs not doing anything for me. I searched the internet and found a direct link between sodium laryl sulfate and sores. I found a toothpaste with out it, sensodyne pronamel, and I have been canker sore free for over two years now. NOT.A.SINGLE.ONE.
