Has anyone flown with them recently? Their luggage allotment says 40 pounds. Most of the others that we have flown with it was 43KG, I wonder if that is a mistake.

Yes, we have flown with them a few times.

From canjet's website:

FREE LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE: For each passenger, CanJet allows up to two (2) checked pieces of 20kg (44 lbs) in combined weight and 158 cm (62 inches) each in overall dimensions (height + width + depth).

Unfortunately part of the deal with flying with a charter. The excess baggage cost is a real money maker for them. Pack wisely!

Wow, we've never flown with any airline which allowed us 43kg luggage. But then again we've only travelled within Canada and US, so I'm sure the International flights have higher luggage weight limits.

However, I will admit that Canjet is lower than the other other airlines we've used. At 44lbs per luggage, Canjet is only a few pounds off from Westjet or Continental who allow 50lbs.

But with Canjet it is COMBINED weight of your two bags. If you only have one bag, it can be 40lbs, but if you have two bags, each can only be (on average) 20 lbs. Whereas with WJ, and AC you can have two bags each weighing 50lbs.

I am booked Canjet for the first time and regret the choice, mostly because of the luggage weight restrictions. We are flying with an infant and because we did not buy him a seat he is not intitled to a bag. They do allow 2 items for baby, car seat play pen etc free of charge, how nice of them. We are stuck taking only 4 bags for 5 of us. If we had stayed AC we could have taken 8 bags. The prices look good on the surface but it is not till you have bought your tickets and start adding things in, seat selection and extra weight that things can add up fast. We are paying 2605.04 return direct from Halifax with seat selection for four. It seems a bit high after reading some of the boards.:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Ooops. Sorry, while I was reading the post, I was thinking that it wouldn't affect us too much since we usually only have one luggage per person weighing about 40-50lbs. And yes, definitely, it would really affect someone who usually takes 2 bags with about 50lbs each (as is the limit for Westjet and Continental). Sorry to confuse anyone.

Thanks for clarifiying that.:)

We paid $3000 for 4 without seat selection. However, this is during March Break and when I checked Westjet, Continental and Delta for those same dates, they were even more and they weren't even non-stop flights. I booked the flights very early on because I was afraid that the prices were going up and as I had checked recently, it's still higher. At this point, I am hoping not to be disappointed with our first flight with them. Although, that whole seat selection fiasco is getting on my nerves.:headache:

We really just wanted a non-stop flight. I just hate flying and the less time I spend in a plane and airport the better.:scared:

We payed 2750.00 for 5 tickets in May from Halifax to Orlando. ($550 each). My father booked his ticket just the other day for April and paid 668.00. I didn't mind paying that because it was a direct flight. I assumed I was paying a bit more for the convenience of a direct flight but when I looked up Air Canada and West Jet who didn't even have a direct flight, I found out I'm paying a LOT less with Canjet.

I don't mind the 44lb limit per person - I don't think I'd want to have to lug 10 suitcases around anyway. I'd end up either losing a suitcase or a kid!!:rotfl2:

I usually do a lot of shopping for my grandchildren, maybe this year it will only be socks and underwear, they don't weigh very much.LOL. Has anyone actually been charged if they are over over by 5-10 pounds? We leave April 8, maye I will see someone from this board at the airport, I think the plane is full and it is direct.

Mousefan20 - it seems we are in the same boat with four seats plus an infant. Going to be tuff to pare down our stuff as we are going for 2 weeks and taking lots of baby gear.

BTW we paid $2800 return Halifax to Ft Lauderdale but no seat selection yet. I thought you could only get seat selection 6 days out? We booked back in the fall.

We came home on Canjet in 2007, but I don't remember their being only 44 pounds of luggage. We were careful though, we each had 2 bags to check. this time maybe will use a larger carry on and check one case and our small carry ons. It was a good flight other than being late leaving MCO. they even gave us a lunch.

Jamester, It is going to be very hard to pare down what we will bring for the baby as we are going for 2 weeks as well. We have 9 days at CBR and 5 days in a condo for laundry. I called Canjet to clarify what we could bring, we will check our car seat and backpack carrier with our luggage. Then skycheck our stoller at the plane. She also said I could have my carry on and one for the baby, which will help because I believe it is 10 kilos.

Seat selection - I read on here that some people had called ealier and were able to get their seats, so I just called to see and she said yes. I just called the seat selction number at the bottom of my email and she did the rest. She gave me a few options to choose from and siad just to make sure I claim my seats when I check in. I hope this helps. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Everyone's plane tickets seem to be very close in price depending on when you go. Helps me feel better, you always wonder if you pay to much especially when you seen the prices out of Buffalo. We still have to fly into Halifax ($2600) and spend the night ($380) each way. What we would do for a little time with the Mouse and some sun. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I may be wrong, but I believe you called the Air Transat Seat Selection number and if that's the case and you were able to book your seats, then your flight is with Air Transat. I was a little confused as well. I was on the other thread about the seat selection. But when I checked the other flights, it seems that the flights on tues or weds are all with Air Transat while the flights on saturdays are Canjet.

And that's why I still cannot book my seats.

yup my husband travels alot for work and I have seen times when he has flown with them and has forgotten about the weight restrictions. Mind you he has to take alot of equipment with him and has been charged extra a few times now he has gotten smart and has his Ontario office ship it and pay it. He was dinged a few times years back before he got on the ball with it. Hmmmm how little can I pack??? Trying to figure it out so we can shop when we get there and how many layers can I wear down.

We are back, our checked luggage was 12 kgs over the limit, they weighed our carry ons and they were under the allowed weight. She said because our carryons were not heavy she wouldldn't charge this time but to make sure we are within our limits the next time. I did have another bag that would have really put us over, but she didn't notice it. Thank heaven!

Stacey how is the new store going, I'm going to have to make a trip out there this week.

YES - I paid $120 in baggage over-ages ($20/kg so roughly $12 pounds between 2 of us) on April 10th as we did not read the luggage allotment and just assumed. I was pulling shoes out of my luggage and squishing them into my carry on and only saved myself 1kg. FYI - their carry-on limit is 5kg.

What makes me mad is that my 2 year old's stroller has to count as his luggage!!! What a pain in the butt!!! Yet if he was 23 months old (or younger) and if he DIDN'T pay for his seat - he'd be allowed 2 pieces of "equipment".

Anyway, I wonder if Disney has a scale that we can weigh our stuff before we get to the airport....

So the carry-ons can only be 10 lbs?? I thought it was 20 - but maybe thats air transat. The good thing is I'm coming home Air Transat - I think they have less strict policies, but not sure.

How was your trip Dennise?
