Candy Canes

Good luck to everyone today. I figure they are probably doing the wristbands right about now. :)
I watched them make my candy cane two days ago. After they completed the batch they had a little bit of product left over which they cut up into mint sized pieces and handed out to the observers. So I was lucky enough to taste it without breaking my candy cane. :)

Hi guys,
I just heard back from guest services at Disneyland. I had emailed them a few days ago asking this question. This was the response I got back:

"The only place to purchase Disneyland’s hand made candy canes will be at the Candy Palace on Main Street on those dates."

She also mentioned that replica candy canes can be bought throughout the park. I did some investigating, and found a blog that chronicles the buying of a candy cane, and she posts pictures of the replicas and the real thing--and the difference is the packaging.

Check it out!

here is a video on the making of them that is really neat!

I did read on another site, the big candy canes you buy from places like Pooh corner, are made in Florida. I bet they are still hand made (don't know that for sure) just not in Disneyland that day, but I bet it would be hard to tell the difference. we will still be lining up next friday and the following monday to get ours.

Have fun!! I'll be there next weekend as well. :) Will you have your LGMH? I was thinking I'd love to do this but I'm probably the only one of us that would love to so we probably won't......lol I may have to buy a couple of the big huge ones they sell in Pooh Corner tho, they make cute Christmas gifts. :)

I saw the giant candy canes at Pooh Corner on the last day of our visit and they DID say hand-made. I didn't purchase one (they looked pretty but did not look brand new and fresh--they just looked like giant regular candy canes to me).

These are the same ones at Marceline's, also made in Florida.

That makes sense--I think I remembered seeing those in DTD when we were there last year Thanksgiving week. They look very similar to the the ones made at the Candy Palace.

We are going next week, and one of our days is a candy cane date--so I make take one for the team and try to get a few. I will report back on it!

How far ahead of opening would y'all recommend getting in line? By 7:15 for an 8 opening? Or is that too late to have a reasonable shot...? I'll be trying on a non MM and a Monday...

That's wonderful!

don't have a LGMH! Our trips the past few years have been so erratic...I plan and book and cancel and change so many times each and every time!! a couple of trips have been deciding and going within a couple of days! so I don't ever plan on meeting anyone there. Even this trip has changed dates, hotels, length of stay, who is going, several times! Even though we have plane tickets, that's not to say we couldnt still cancel and have a credit or change dates..... :lmao: I've learned to plan for the best and expect the worst. but we are supposed to be there from the 8th to the 15th! I will be on the lookout for the LGMH and if I see one I will stop and say hello! :)

So I'm confused they are or aren't the same as POOH Corner? Just different packaging and warm?

I hate this kind of thing... make 1000! why only make 100...

They are NOT the same as the ones at Pooh's. Those ones might be "hand-crafted" somewhere, but it's not at Disneyland!

If you watch the video that I posted, you will know why. There are only a few candy makers at the candy palace that know how to make them, and it takes a lot of skill and time to make the 150 they do on those special days. It is a old fashioned skill that takes a lot of time and effort, I guess. Maybe that is why they are so special?

Anyway, I plan to try to get a few on Friday!

Easy to make 1000 when machines are doing it. The reason these sell so fast, they are made by hand. It takes several hours to make 45, and they make 2-3 batches on "Candy Cane" days.

I still say, get more elves.. make more... don't make something so hard that everyone can't enjoy the magic!

But if everyone could get them, then they wouldn't be magical at all. What's special about something anyone could get at anytime?

We'll be there on 12/12, and we're looking forward to getting ours! I'm thinking that since we live on the east coast, we can use the time difference as an advantage to line up early, since 7AM will feel like 10AM to us. ;)

We were there last Friday morning. In line for breakfast with Minnie.
The "dash" was crazy. Of course we were at the far left at the Character Breakfast line and that was the side the majority of candy cane racers headed and "RAN" for.
Wow! Craziness, but all in good fun. Glad I stayed to the side as you could tell they were on a "mission". I thought they handed out the vouchers at the gate to avoid the dash.

I don't think I agree with that... there is a lot during the holiday that is 'special' and not an ounce less so because it is open to everyone! Think of all the holiday food available, the fireworks, the parades, etc. Just because I get something and others do not I do not feel it is more 'special'... I wish everyone happiness and that they get what they want this time of year! :santa:

It seems as though once a few people found out (on this thread) that the candy canes at Pooh Corner were not the ones made at Disneyland, they seem to not want them anymore. Anyone could walk into Pooh Corner and buy one of those candy canes, but because they aren't the "special" candy canes, they are suddenly disappointed.

I'm just saying it's the rarity that makes these candy canes special and magical. If Disneyland had 1000 people doing nothing but hand making candy canes 24 hours a day so there could be enough for everyone who walked into the park, then there really wouldn't be anything special about them, other than the fact they came from Disneyland. I think of it kind of like a Dole Whip. Am I going to rush and line up to be one of the first to get one? No, because I know they are there all day, everyday.

If they offered the special holiday food, fireworks and parades all year long, then what would be special about visiting at Christmastime?

Oh I totally understand. :) Sometimes I have mine out sometimes I don't. But if you do see me then stop and say hi! :)

They are different from the Pooh Corner candy canes because they are hand-made and not machine made. To make 1000 you'd have to have so many employees that they couldn't be made on-site and so wouldn't be "fresh" or the cool novelty that they currently are. If people want them they will wait in the line to get them. If you don't want to wait in line don't, but others who do want to wait will.

I'm not disappointed in a candy cane from Pooh Corner, it's a candy cane from DL, what's to be disappointed in? That said, I've had a hand-made candy cane from DL (OK a small piece) from a Diser who shared hers when we did a mini-meet one January. It wasn't "fresh" anymore but it was really good!! And HUGE!!!! OMG it was massive. lol Will I wait in line.....no, probably not because I will be with the family, would I if I was alone....yes, probably. Why? Because it's an experience and I think it would be neat to have one that was just made. I also don't think they should make more than 100 a per day, I would rather they be made on-site because it's honestly rather neat to know they still do that. :)

What's the policy with trying to get the candy canes that people didn't pick up? I'm coming in on Friday which is a candy cane day but unfortunately I won't be there at park opening, so I thought I'd try and hope for a little luck and pixie dust and be able to get one that someone else didn't pick up.
