Candy Canes

I wanted to get some other people's experiences with the whole candy cane sale. It looks like at least one of the day's during my trip next week there will be candy canes available for sale and I do not want to miss out. If the park opens at 8, how early should I get to the main gate? Is there usually a huge crowd that shows up for the candy canes. I know they make only a limited amount each day and I hope I don't miss out. Any tips or experiences with this would be appreciated!

Be one of the first through the gate and head straight to the candy place. We did it a few days before Christmas in 2009 and were in the second batch.

I think I read that they are giving the vouchers/tickets as you enter DL, so you don't have to rush and line up at the candy shop. I am wondering the same thing for next week when we are there. Is it going to cause more people to line up earlier? How are they going to determine who wants one and who doesn't, it might slow things down upon entering. I'm not sure, will be interested to find out how it works. When is the first day?

I thought I read somewhere that instead of giving out the tickets at the candy place, that this year they are handing them out at the gate?

Can anyone confirm or deny?

I just saw this, as well. We will be there next week and are trying to see if we could possibly do this. We plan on doing MM anyway, so we would be out there pretty early anyway.

Any crowd tips would be helpful, as this is a whole new experience for me. This will be my first Christmastime visit to DLR, as I am usually at Disney World (and crowds there are so not the same!).

Can't wait to hear more about this! My dad would enjoy this!

I'm curious as to how they will be handling the handing of vouchers? I imagine that if they are handing them out at the gate, there will probably be a designated line for this, hopefully clearly marked. Either way, I'll be there bright and early to try and get a voucher or two!

I think you may need to report back and share some first hand knowlege. It's sounding interesting with lots of ideas of what may happen.

I'm not sure I understand the advice in the column. If you're provided a voucher at the gate, why the need to frantically race to the candy store? Unless they're providing significantly more vouchers than there are canes. Now that I've typed it out, I'm guessing that's the case. Any confirmation?

I will be there on Dec 2 and would be interested in hearing from those who participated in this previously.

I think what their saying is that you should line up nice and early at security, then once you're cleared through security to run as fast as possible to the main entrance gates to the park. that's how I read it anyway...

If I purchase a candy cane, can I have it sent to my hotel(PPH) like I can do with other purchases?

I bet they will go super fast. People who had never heard of them, or didn't even care will want them if they are just handing them out at the gate, you know? I doubt anyone will say "no thank you" lol. Although what if they take one and then don't return to buy one?? Hmmm. It seems like this could be complicated.

There is a time you have to pick them up by, and those that aren't picked up are sold at the counter (and they go quickly.)

The past few years, you have been able to get some at Pooh Corner..no wait ;)!

someone correct me if I am mistaken (I am sure you all will!)--

but I *think* the ones at pooh corner or other places around the park are not the same ones that are made by hand that everyone is talking about getting a voucher for.

I have had both--the kind you can buy at regular stores in DLR, (I think these are machine made and mass produced) and the handmade variety. I got the handmade variety from the candy store purely by accident one year. There was a big line and I just jumped in it--and when I saw everyone was buying the handmade candy canes I got one too. Right after me they ran out.

It tasted handmade and a bit different than a regular candy cane--but I don't really think it is worth all the fuss. (ducks from all the candy cane lovers throwing shoes at me!).

We will be there one of the days they are handing out vouchers (we are going Dec. 8-10), so if we may try to get a few if it isn't too crazy.

I was told same ones...they are the same price, look the exact same etc. I think paying 9.95 for a candy cane is ridiculous (always with people who bought them)!

I called Disneyland Guest Services today asking about candy canes, so I hope this clears things up for some of you..

I spoke with a nice CM by the name of Jessica who after putting me on hold for about 8 minutes told me that each CM at the turnstiles will have a certain amount of candy cane tickets and will only hand them out to guests who ask for them, one ticket per person and one ticket equals one candy cane.

She didn't know much after that, but said that the tickets will most likely have the information on them on where and when to go to pick up and pay for your candy cane.

If anyone will be getting candy canes Wednesday, could you please report back and verify if this is all correct?

so I wonder if it's better to split up a group into different lines then. and when I get to the turnstile I'm going to ask before they even scan my ticket! if they are out, I wonder if they will ask the cast member to either side of them for you? :confused3

That's what I was thinking, what happens if they run out, but other CMs still have them, do I have to exit and come back in a different line?

Or like you said, asking first before they scan our ticket is a good idea!
