Has anyone on here stayed at the Candy Cane Inn near Disneyland?

Planning a trip to DL in January 2012, and considering staying at CCI.

If you stayed there, what was your impression? Any photos of the place that you care to share on here? I've seen the photos on the website, but sometimes vacation photos show a lot more.

How far of a walk is it from CCI to the DL gates? Did you have a standard or premium room at CCI? If you had the premium, what was the continental breakfast basket like?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Check out Trip Advisor's site! There are vacation photos on there.

I haven't stayed there, but I walked past it several times on a recent DLR trip, and of all the resorts, it looks clean, and on the up and up. UNLIKE the Jolly Roger which is shadier than all the others - a definite no-tell -motel.

The Candy Cane Inn has very high rating on Trip Advisor! Trip Advisor has never let me down!

If you do a search of Candy Cane or CCI on this board, you should come up with many hits. It does seem to be one of the popular places on here. We have stayed at Candy Cane Inn three times in the past. My sons really loved it. We easily walked to and from the park, but if our timing was right we occasionally hopped on the private shuttle. The breakfast is decent, plentiful carbs, milk, juice, cocoa, coffee. The rooms were clean, the grounds are immaculate. Parking was free but a little tight sometimes. The layout is motel type with two stories and exterior corridors. We have only stayed in a standard room. I felt the room size was a little snug but doable with two adults and two children. We haven't stayed at Candy Cane for quite a while since I can almost always find something else I'm satisfied with that is cheaper and within walking distance. If the price was right for me though, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Candy Cane is very nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast is nice and the exclusive shuttle is very nice, especially at night after walking in the park all day. However, if you walk, it is only about 10 minutes from the inn to the main gate.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I appreciate it.

I 100% agree with all of lurker's comments.

The walk is 8-9 min. to the Harbor Blvd. security tent......but we would use the DEDICATED shuttle 3/4ths of the time. (wouldn't use it in the early AM or after the fireworks).

Here's a good thread (started by pinkbudgie) with pics, comments etc.:

Is this your first visit to DLR? Curious why you wouldn't stay on site since so many of your WDW visits are at deluxe resorts?

Also....if you haven't read Hyrdroguy's tip threads, you might want to. :)

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's park. :thumbsup2

Just didn't want to spend the money this trip for a deluxe resort. A friend of mine who lives in California recommended staying here, as it is always where she stays. She didn't think it was worth the extra cost to stay on-site...but that doesn't mean I might not change my mind about where we stay, LOL.
We'll probably end up staying at the CCI though.

Thanks for your input. :)

I just stayed at CCI for 7 nights last week and got home yesterday. I do not have much new to add to what others have posted. We stayed in a standard room. There was just two of us.

The grounds at CCI are, IMO, a step up in quaintness and quality from some of the other walking distance hotels on Harbor. The pool is nice, clean and small. Once we were in the room it seemed no different than say BWPPI or other hotels. It was clean and relatively well kept. Nothing upscale at all - not that I was expecting it. Mostly we just slept there. We used the pool once.

Have a great trip! :)

What's BWPPI?

We've always had good luck at Candy Cane Inn. We have stayed here the past 4 trips to DLR and always loved it. If you have AAA, use the DIS code and you can usually get a pretty good rate in the $119-$139 range. We would probably rather stay on-site, but end up not wanting to spend the extra $$'s for a room that we are hardly in!

The grounds are beautiful. They have a really nice pool area and hot tub, provide a nice complimentary breakfast, their own shuttle and free parking! Its about a 7 minute walk to the DL/DCA main entrance.

The rooms aren't huge, but have always been plenty of room for us. There is also a small fridge and coffee maker in the room. The vanity area is separate from the bathroom and shower. And as far as I could tell, the room was always pretty clean and in good shape.

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

There are 3 levels of rooms. The standard room is the smallest. The next is deluxe rooms (larger, nicer amenities). We love the premium rooms. The leave a welcome gift (cookies, snacks, popcorn), robes, larger room (100sf larger than the standard room), free DVDs in room, breakfast delivered to the room, and more.

We love the CCI. They keep the pool warm. ( not all places do) breakfast is good. fruit, yogurt, bagels, cream cheese, toast, peanut butter, honey, butter, jam. donuts, pastries, cereal. Lovely sitting by the pool for breakfast. so pretty. !enjoy.. v ery clean

1. Nice grounds
2. About a 10 minute walk to Security check (depending on where in the hotel you are and crosswalk timing
3. Small rooms (Would not recommend for four people in a standard room)
4. A little overpriced considering the room size and distance to walk
5. Family owned type feel to the place
6. Outside corridors.... Strictly a motel not a hotel

Another :thumbsup2 for the Candy Cane. It's one of the best hotels on "the strip." Many people consider it the best.

I remember walking past it from our hotel that was farther down from it. It looks to be a very nice place to stay and a short distance from the park. Very doable if you want to walk.
