candy cane inn?

Great little property. Rated as the top 1 or 2 in the area by tripadvisor.com

We stayed there last March as a family. In May I stayed with two friends and in April we'll be going as a family again.

It was built in 1956 by a man who moved from Turkey with his family as a teen. It has now been handed down to his son. It is their only hotel, and they take great pride in it. It's a typical 1950's "motel" style. So, the rooms all open to outside/ parking lot, rather in hotel style with indoor hallways. Its a close walk to the parks- less then 10 minutes. Its on the same side of the street, so no need to cross a busy road. They own their own shuttle bus. It runs every 1/2 hour betwen the park and the hotel. It starts 1/2 hour before the park opens and the last one is 45 min after the park closes. There is one shuttle in the evening that doesnt run- around 7:30 or so (time posted in lobby).

The rooms are not huge, but are big enough for our family of 4 or for 3 adult women. They could use a little more drawer space, but we dont have a problem leaving our stuff in our suit cases. The rooms are decorated nicely, with down comforter on the beds. The beds are great pillow tops mattresses, that are fairly new. We saw the delivery truck in the parking lot last March.

They have free breakfast daily. It could use some protein, but in general is a good way to start the day. They have 3 kinds of cold cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels (3 kinds of cream cheese), muffins (english and sweet), pastries, apples, oranges, bananas, coffee, tea and juice. There are large toasters for toasting the bread products. I think there was bread, and peanut butter as well.

Both peanut butter and cream cheese are protein. :)

I loved the Candy Cane. We just stayed there over New Years and my only complaint is that they were not pro-active enough in smakcing down the little brats on heelies who kept tearing through the breakfast area. The staff shouldn't have to cover for bad parents, but if they allow unattended children to wander around they ought to keep them from being a nuisance and a danger to the rest of their guests.

Thank you fro the breakfast description! Do they have refrigerators? DH is diabetic, so we always keep a stach of higher protein stuff with us. Boiled eggs, etc. And, do they have a restaurant for him to have a real meal?

We checked their website and yes they have Fridges (we will be bring hard boiled eggs too!). And they have free highspeed wireless. Yeah!

Peanut butter does have some protein, cream cheese is more of a fat then a protein. But, over all we dont really mind. We eat what they provide then have a bigger lunch then we normally would. Or we have a big, late breakfast in the park and a snack for lunch.

A couple more important things....the rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable!:)

Good point! Forgot that dear husband is there for business, and will need that computer!

I would agree with the other posters. The Candy Cane Inn is one of the best hotels within walking distance. I think your friend will be pleased.

If not HoJo we stay at CCI ... we always walked to the park in the morning and took the shuttle back ... :goodvibes

Love CCI :thumbsup2

The free breakfast saved our family of 5 alot of $$$. The shuttle was clean and on-time when we needed it. Although we did walk to DL alot of the time.

The beds were comfy and the grounds were beautiful when we were there.

Can't wait until we go back to CCI.
