Candy Cane Inn vs. HoJo - how noisy?

I'm strongly considering a Premium room at CCI for our December trip, but I've heard mixed things about noise there. I've seen some say it's quiet, but others have said the walls are paper thin and they heard everything (conversations, tv, etc) from the next room, and of course, as a motor inn, there are exterior corridors and possible car noise issues to consider.

What I think I'll like about CCI:

* Great location! Close to parks and Anaheim Garden Walk, and convenience stores, but away from the freeway.

* Option to walk or take a dedicated shuttle.

* Looks very charming to me, especially for a motor inn.

* Reasonable price.

* Pool is reputed to be very warm. I don't know if we'll swim in December, but if it's warm enough, it sounds like there will be a chance since the pool is warm.

I'm also considering the park view rooms at HoJos, and I like that there would be interior corridors and an even better price. But they don't have the shuttle option (I'm plenty energetic enough to walk, but my feet blister extremely easily--it's a constant problem), my husband hates freeway noise, and the pool has the reputation of being very cold. Also, and this may sound weird, but I despise the look of the HoJo comforters. I know that sounds picky, but I just HATE those mustard-colored spreads. They bug me every time I see a room picture. :sad2:

So I'm definitely leaning to the CCI, but curious about your experience there with noise? Are there other factors to consider?

We've never stayed at the CCI but would definately try it next time we go. The Howard Johnson is nice but it you don't care for freeway noise be sure to get a room facing the pool area. We stayed there last year and although the freeway noise didn't bother me it sure did my DH and he wasn't as happy as he should have been. He had a great time but was very drowsy from lack of sleep. We come from a small community so noise was a factor. HJ was not a far walk at all. In fact we came and went many times just for a break. Whichever you choose have a great time. Enjoy the Disney Magic.:yay:

Good question - I am deciding between these two as well and noise issues will definitely be the deciding factor - I like QUIET. :goodvibes

Interesting to note that pool view rooms are supposed to be quiet at HoJo - I was interested in the rooms directly facing Disneyland Resort - although I know these are most expensive - do you hear noise from Harbor Bvd?

At hojo the pool view rooms are very quiet, the interior corridor faces the freeway and you cant hear a thing. in October this will be our 4th time staying in building 2. The Disney view are noisy to me only when you open the balcony door :goodvibes
I have stayed at CCI also and did not care for the small rooms and doors that open to the outside. Our room was farther back from harbour, I did not hear road noise, but I could hear people in the room next to me. I didn't care for that.
Enjoy your trip :goodvibes

Hmmmm.... I've never noticed noise at the Candy Cane before. There's virtually NO road noise because of how it's set back from any road. I wouldn't let that be a factor at all.

HOWEVER, I wouldn't waste money on a premium room. Just get a deluxe. It's the same room; the only difference is you get a DVD player and microwave, and you get the option of having breakfast delivered TO your room instead of going to get it. (You can always have one person go get it and bring it back to your room in a deluxe room, too.)

The pool IS warm, and the hot tub is usually nice and hot (something the Disney hotels are AWFUL at!) It's really a nice little motel!

I haven't tried the CCI but have heard good things here.

We stayed at HOJO in May & were very happy. We stayed in Bldg. 2 facing teh pool & didn't experience noise at all. Well, actually we had a ground floor room & right after we got there we heard a ton of noise from the room above & I thought that if it continued I'd have them move us. I never heard it again our entire stay so I'm not sure what it was????

We stayed at the CCI in a Premium Room & we LOVED it!! It sure is a charming motel! The grounds are beautiful!! The pool is very small though. We didn't notice any more noise than any other hotel (& no road noise whatsoever). Our room was on the 2nd floor along the back of the U (hotel is U shaped around the parking lot). Our room was nice, a fair size, it was clean & it wasn't noisy. The breakfast delivered to our room was so convenient & we only used the shuttle once but it was nice to have as an option as well! I would stay there again in a heartbeat! :thumbsup2
That being said, we have also stayed at the HoJo in a Park View room & LOVED it! :rotfl: We had 2 such rooms & heard some freeway noise from both but did not find it bothersome at all. I did not notice any more noise from neighbors, hallway, etc than any other hotel that we have stayed in. The rates are great & we are staying there again on our trip in 1 week (trying a pool view room this time)!! I can not wait!!!! :woohoo:
Good luck with your decision! You can't go wrong either way imo!!!

We have stayed at both Howard Johnson's and CCI. We prefer the Candy Cane Inn. It is just cozier...the rooms are very nice, the are a little more unique then the HoJo's. I have never had an issue with noise at the CCI and we have stayed there 4 times now. The pool is warm in December (we have gone two times in December) and the hot tub is Hot! The breakfast is very nice. We always do standard room and I go get our food since I like to wake up at the crack of dawn.
We have stayed in two different rooms at HoJo's...one was so so and by the Main pool, the other in a room by the quiet pool and our room door literally opened to I-5 with a window separating us...lol. I hate noise and it was mild to moderate at HoJo's. It was a fine hotel I just liked CCI better.

It all comes down to taste in the long run.....either way you will be in Disneyland :)

Same exact thoughts for me. We have stayed at the CCI 4 times in the premium rooms. Never a complaint about anything and the breakfast delivery was nice and timely. The walk to DL is fine but that dedicated shuttle is always a bonus if you choose to use it.

We stayed at the HoJo this past July on the 7th floor with a park view. Standing out on the balcony, the freeway noise was quite noticeable. But, while inside the room, it wasn't a bother at all. The room was really comfortable and accomodating. We will definitely return to the HoJo.

We always bring a small fan or white noise machine to hotels. We run it and it drowns out the talking, traffic, and stomping that you may hear. Without it I have a much harder time sleeping.

What makes the premium room at CCI worth more? Are they bigger? Better location? Less noisey? :)

Haven't stayed at CCI, but we stayed at a top floor premium Disney view at HoJo and loved it. It was very quiet. Like the previous poster, I always bring a small white-noise machine, and it helps me to sleep so noise in the corridor doesn't bother me (doors slamming at 2 a.m, "Ka-CHUNK!")

The freeeway noise out on the balcony was quite noticeable, but inside it's very quiet and well-insulated. If you'd like to hear for yourself, there's a short video taken from our balcony on page 5 of our trip report, linked in my signature below.

The premium room is a deluxe room with an added DVD player, a microwave, and breakfast delivered to your room. You also get cookies in your room on arrival, turn down service, late check-out and nicer shampoo, etc. Size-wise, it's not any bigger.

Great link - very useful - I'll have a good read of your trip report in full as weel.

Thanks! That sounds nice. :thumbsup2

We just got back from a stay at the CCI! This was our 2nd time staying there and loved it just as much as we did our first time. We stayed in a standard room and were put on the first floor...room 103...which is also right next to where the bus pulls up every night and by the road. We NEVER heard any noise from the bus, people getting off the bus or the road traffic while we were there. I am a VERY light sleeper and was amazed that I never heard a single sound. You also don't every hear any noise from other hotel guests using the shower or flushing a toilet...EVER.

I would definately recommend the CCI to anyone visiting DL!

Thanks you guys! DISboards are the best, as always.

Unless I get a bunch of "OMG, CCI was so noisy!" responses, I think we'll stick with CCI. We'll bring our ear plugs and good Disney attitude, and it sounds like everything will be fine. We might switch to HoJo's for more space if my son and/or his girlfriend decide to join us. It sounds like we can't lose either way. :thumbsup2

About the noise, some places are clearly better or worse than others--and that's what I'm looking to find out here--but I'm thinking no matter where you stay it can be noisy if you're unlucky to be in the wrong room at the wrong time. I've spent a lot of time the last couple days reading TripAdvisor reports, and I've seen some "the walls are paper thin" comments for CCI, HoJo's, AND also just about every other hotel I looked at, including Disneyland and Grand Californian hotels.

Another huge fan of the CCI...

1. Dedicated Shuttle (major plus for those tired feet)
2. Great continental breakfast
3. Free parking
4. Free internet access
5. Cozy w/ flowers, cobblestone, and love how it feels secluded.

Unless something crazy happens, will continue to go to this lovely hotel.

I have never stayed at HoJo's so can't comment on that but I loved the CCI. It was so pretty and the shuttle was great. We did both, the shuttle some days and walked others. The walk is not bad at all. I LOVED the free breakfast. I could go for one of those glazed donuts right now! I didn't notice any noise at all and I'm a light sleeper.
