Candy cane In,Is there any Magic missing?

So I have booked reservation at the Candy Cane Inn for four nights. Originally I was going to book the Disneyland Hotel,but for me and my DS,as much time or I should say as less time we stay In the room I did not feel It was worth almost 400.00 dollars a night. But Disney guilt Is really eating at me.On this trip we are also flying to WDW and staying for 10 nights at POR,and staying on property Is not even a question In Flordia,we just love submerging our selfs In Disney.
So with Booking at CCI I have found my self battleing my self over not booking DH and I feel I am loseing some Disney magic In return for a cheaper room rate. I know what people must think,I am debating over paying 400/500 compare to 1200/1500$ but really It feels like I am cheating on the Mouse.]
So whats wrong?,I must be missing something where can I find the magic at CCI?

I believe the magic at DLR is found in being able to park hop in minutes without taking a bus all over the place. Once you are there, you are there. We have never stayed on site at DLR. When you look at how much more you are charged per night, we would rather use the money to stay extra days or spend at the park.

I've never stayed at CCI but plan to next time. I haven't been to WDW but I bet staying at CCI is still a faster walk to the parks than staying onsite at WDW.

Don't think twice about staying at the CCI. It was a very nice hotel/motel for the price and really can't be beat. DLR is not the same as WDW for onsite perks... At WDW you can get a moderate or Value price and still keep the magic. DLR doesn't not have the moderate or Value price so your option is to go wtih offsite.

CCI, I believe, is the same walking distance to Entrance as DLH. While they don't offer Characters in the hotel or Disney wallpaper on the walls or a walk through DTD, you also don't need to pay the price.

You also can not have your purchases shipped back or charge your purchases back to your room if you stay at CCI.

We have stayed at CCI. It is nice. They have a muffin/cereal/juice breakfast there that's not too bad. Better than a lot of them. You can walk, but it is a LONG walk. Walking from the Disneyland hotel, I haven't ever clocked the distance, but just walking thru the whole downtown Disney, it doesn't seem as long. Good luck.
There is also a Marriott just across the street that we have stayed at quite a bit. We prefer Marriott over Candy Cane, because it is right next to McDonalds, and it is just across the street. Much closer...

Can you bring your own magic to CCI? Maybe little surprise gifts to leave for your family in the morning? I'm sure you've read some of the cute ideas to do in Disney rooms (like having Tinkerbell or whoever leave gifts for the family)--you can tailor whatever to your own family and save some money.

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn in 2008 after having stayed previous years at Disneyland Hotel. Both properties have their own separate positive aspects.

We felt that the walk from CCI to the main entrance of the park was not much longer at all than the walk from the front entrance to DH. We felt that both walks were in the 10-15 minute range. CCI does share a wall with DL property.

The shuttle bus service from CCI was excellent running every half hour. No complaints there. We did tip the bus driver once daily, but I don't think it is a 'must'. We ended up taking our breakfast items back to our room since the breakfast room and patio do get crowded (we were there over holidays).

There is probably a bit more of the 'magic' staying at DH, but not such a difference as, say, staying at Kissimmee Days Inn vs. Port Orleans or Poly at WDW.

I have to agree with PinkBudgie here. We do WDW every 2 years or so *usually take a cruise in between for our "big" vacation", but we go to DL about monthly from out of state.

In WDW, we wouldn't dream of staying offsite, as we truly enjoy the resort of choice for us. We also enjoy having the bus system to get around.

In DL, the cost of staying "on site" is so outrageous, that we cannot fathom spending that much per night to be no closer to the parks. If we want to have Mickey shaped soaps and be "immersed" in the Disney magic, we can bring some of the plethora from WDW trips and a couple of Disney throw blankets we've purchased to toss over the back of the bed.

ONE night at some of the Disney hotels costs us our airfare for two people, with no added bonus of being closer to either park. It actually takes us longer to walk from DH to the gates than from Dessert Inn.

We prefer to spend less per night, be closer, and go more often (9 trips since Dec 2008, always for at least 4-5 nights) beats out 1 week of staying "on site" per year for the same cost at DLR resort *in our opinion*. Everyone's mileage varies of course.

Another bonus of going more often and always using the same hotel is that they are willing to work with you on rates. Not only did the manager recognize my name on the reservation list and lowered our rate by $30 the 1st night, and $20 for the last three nights this trip, but also upgraded us to a jacuzzi suite. There are things to be said about staying at the smaller places and getting to know the staff.

Once again, this is simply OUR reasoning for not staying onsite at DLR. Once again, at WDW, we always stay onsite, as it is much more important to us.

Go with the CCI. We stayed there in October and loved our stay. I think the walk from CCI to the front gates is about the same as from DLH, where I have also stayed. The walk from DLH to the Monorail is shorter, but the monorail takes you only into DL. If you are going to DCA you have to walk. The CCI shuttle is very reliable and leaves every half hour. I think it runs from the Inn to the park on the hour and half hour and from the park to the Inn at a quarter past and a quarter to the hour. There is one round trip run in the evening that doesnt happen to give the driver a dinner break- it's posted. Like the pp we tipped, but not every ride. The breakfast choices are fairly varied, but nothing hot to eat other than instant oatmeal. So bedsides saving on the cost of the room you will also save on breakfast costs. There is not the same magic as staying at DLH, but there is enough magic. We found the people very helpful and full of Disney spirit. You will be spending most of your time on Disney property anyway. It is just not the same as in Florida, as far as staying on/off property

I did feel a lot of magic staying concierge at the Grand though but we only paid 200 something per night with AP rate and hotel mix up( DLH was renovating their concierge lounge so we were given the same price for the Grand). Also when I stayed at the Grand it rained a lot so we really got to enjoy the hotel and lounge. This last trip at Hojos the weather was nice so we spent most of the time at the park. You don't lose much magic if you are in the park most of the time and the money you save staying offsite means more money for experiences at the park (character meals, shopping, ect).

The shuttles start running about 30 minutes before the park opens. Sometimes earlier if they are full. The shuttle runs every half hour or so. Since it is an exclusive shuttle to CCI, it is not exact, but you never have to wait long for the next one to come.

The walk is nice and not too far. You only have to cross the street to the parking areas, not Harbor Blvd., which is nice.

We usually walk over in the morning because I like to get there early, but take the shuttle on the way back because my feet are killing me by then.
