I'm thinking of doing one of these, but I'm curious what those of you who had them think about how they went over. Success? Did your guests enjoy it? Is this something you've filed under the Glad I Did, or Wish I Had Cut category?

Also, can someone throw out a rough cost estimate for one of these? Does Disney rent you the containers for the candy?

AND if you wouldn't mind posting some pictures I'd really appreciate it! I don't think I've explained this concept very well to DF yet, and I searched for some pics online but I know I've seen better ones here.

TIA!

I'm not a Disney bride. I've not even married/about-to-get married.

But I did do a candy bar for a party, recently.

I ordered candy from an online store (Bulk Candy Co.) that allowed me to purchase by color. It was $90 worth. Unfortunately, UPS messed up and delivered the candy to the wrong house, they refused it, so UPS sent it back to the company... the day before I needed it for my party.

So, I was forced to rush out and buy any solid-color candy I could find. I got $75 worth of suckers and other suck candy at Cracker Barrel. I spent about $25 on M&Ms (actually, they are called "Color Mes") at Russell Stover. And then I also got candy from the Dollar Store. All of the candy came out to around $100, give or take.

I used containers I already have. Since I didn't do this at Disney, idk anything about whether or not they loan you the containers.

LittleMissMagic, that's a really impressive display -- you'd never guess you had to throw it together at the last minute like that!

Hi!
I inquired about a candy bar a few months ago. The response I received for a rough estimate was $2,000 for 80 ppl. I wrote back asking if there was anyway to get that under a $1,000 as I think 2 grand on candy is insane. My consultant said once I got closer to the date I could contact floral about specifics and they could look into it. She also let me know that you rent the jars/glass from Disney and that they would reflect in the price as well. I'm having my reception at ADH and so I cannot bring it in myself. I am not sure if you can do it yourself since it is considered a food item. Definitely ask your planner because if you can do it yourself it would be a lot cheaper!

I think I just fainted when I read $2000!!! That is insanity for candy, sheesh! I'm pretty fuzzy on what can/can't be brought in at different locations so I will definitely ask about bringing my own stuff into Ariel's - although truthfully I'm wondering how feasible it would be for me to get the glass down to Orlando without it breaking/costing a fortune. Still, it's something to think about for sure. I understand that a candy buffet is a decor element as well as a favor, and for that reason I don't expect it to be dirt cheap, but I'm already planning to have caricatures as favors and there is a limit to how much of my budget I am willing to devote to favors! Thanks so much for your input. :)

This is beautiful! What a fantastic job, I never would have guessed it was last minute!

This looks fantastic! You did a wonderful job! My mom and sister are planning a candy buffet for my bridal shower in August. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I have been toying with the idea of a candy buffet for my daughter's wedding reception at the Swan, and wanted to get an estimate of what it would cost before I checked with the Swan to see if I am allowed to do it. Like you, I did not want to transport glass jars anywhere, so I checked at three places that I knew had Orlando locations. Walmart, of course, had a few different items that would look cute full of candy, but the best "find" was the old-fashioned candy/cookie jar for @$7. On the same aisle in kitchen/housewares,Walmart also had tall glass pitchers, big beer mugs and sets of wine glasses. There were two different types of actual candy dishes on another aisle, but they were small. Both Michael's and A.C. Moore had glass vases in varying heights that would coordinate well together. Walmart also had the heavy square vases in two different heights for $1 or $2 less than Michael's, and a few clear plastic containers that would work, I just did not think they looked as nice as glass. I priced bulk candy at Sam's in pastel colors, but now that my daughter has decided her colors, I need to go online for a better selection. I have an idea in my head of how I want the buffet to look: I want 3-4 of the old fashioned candy jars with scoops near the front with bulk unwrapped candy(m&m's, jellybeans, etc.) flanked on the side with stemware full of kisses. I am not sure what I want in tall jars behind the unwrapped candy yet. On one side we would have small candy bags printed with the names of the bride and groom and the date. I am not sure what we will do with the jars after the reception if we decide to do the candy buffet.
