Candy Buffet

I know several Diser's have done these. I am thinking about having one at our 4th of July party. Where did you find to be the cheapest place to buy candy?

Check out Economy Candy in NYC. Although I do not know it off hand, they do have a website and do ship nationwide. They have all sorts of candy....popular, nostalgic, and hard to find stuff as well.

One thing to keep in mind: candy is NOT cheap! And shipping is outrageous because it is so heavy. We were thinking about doing one a few months ago and discovered that wrapped candy can be your best bargain. Stuff like Starburst, Laffy Taffy, fun size candy bars, etc. because it's inexpensive candy but the colorful wrappers make the statement you're looking for. Red Twizzlers are also a great bargain. M&M's are a budget buster. It takes a tone of them to fill a container. Same with Jelly Bellys. I'd stick with what's available at your grocery store or Wal Mart rather than bulk candy stores if you want to do it as inexpensively as possible.

We did a candy buffet for my DS graduation. We only used wrapped candy and got it all at Deals and Costco. I got lots of retro candy at Deals and put a couple of different kind together to make theme bowls. I used different flavors of tootsie rolls for one bowl and different types of suckers for another. The Costco candy I just separated out by brand. I had a snickers bowl and a Reece cup bowl... All together I had about 20 bowls. I found a nice size Ziploc bag in a party supply store for really cheap and used those.

Don't forget about the heat in July. We were selling Hugs for Halie wristbands as a fundraiser at our church and included a bowl of chocolate Hugs as a pull, and they melted. This was over Memorial Day weekend, and it really wasn't that warm. If you do it you may want to avoid chocolate (I could never do that) or keep it inside.

We did a Candy Buffet last June the cheapest places I found candy were BJ'S and Oriental Trading Co. !!! We had Gumballs, Tootsie rolls, Twizzlers, Pixie stix, lemon heads, miniature candy bars, fish, candy cigarettes and more ill see if I can find my pics and post them for you! We tried to do the candies they liked when they were younger!

I was going to order a bunch of candy for our daughter's sweet sixteen. Shipping was crazy. We wen't to Sam's Club and found nearly everything we wanted for a reasonable price. We found the rest at Walmart. We were surprised to find out that they do sell some bulk candy.

I just did a big candy buffet for our Staff Appreciaion week - I looked at candy prices, but shipping was WAY over our budget.

I foud everything that I needed at Sams, WalMart, and the Dollar Tree. We had a few wrapped things, but mostly loose. I'll post pics later today so you can see the buffet.

I browsed through HUNDREDS of pictures and tried to make note of what I liked. For me, I finally realized that I liked the bars where everything was in plain glass jars and containers. I think that the jars have as much a part of the overall look as the candy does

I just did a Candy Buffet for DD's 10yr old BD party. We used cheap flowerpots we found at Micheals and I let the girls decorate the flowerpots (outsides only).

The SuperTarget near us has a HUGE candy aisle. We found Jelly Belly gummy crocodiles there for our son's safari themed birthday party. They also have bulk Jelly Belly beans, gummy shapes, etc. The prices are a little high, around $7/pound, but if you want something specific, it's cheaper than a online purchase with shipping. They also used to carry one of my favorite candy bars, a Canadian Nestle product called Coffee Crisp.

I wish I could figure out how to post a photo but for our wedding I spent months buying glass jars from Michaels with the 50% off coupons and even after Valentines Day I bought boxes of candy and hearts and used the chocolates for our table. A lot of stuff like the gumballs and non-parrells we got through ebay, I made choc. covered pretzels and oreos and bought some through wholesale stores online. To top it off I bought wedding favor silver heart scoops to serve the candy and bought tiny personal sized white paper bags and stamped the word "love" in chocolate on them. It was the best $600 I ever spent and to this day everyone talks about it. I have even been to other weddings who were guests of ours and theirs dident even come close.
