Did I hear it right on the DIS podcast yesterday that Disney remove the birth of Christ from the Candlelight processional? Unreal if they did! :sad2:

Do a search, there is a long thread on this. They shortened CP by removing a song and taking out part of the narrative. It is impossible to remove the birth of Christ from CP since that is what it is about.

Agree with the PP that it was only a fairly small segment that was removed.

They removed the Solitary Life portion of the program, the part about Jesus dying on the cross, also the song Do you hear what I hear. Very sad indeed in my opinion.

I agree! Very Sad! What else is sad is that Disney has bowed to a small minority of people. What will be next? No bibles in the Hotels?!

What makes you think that they bowed to anyone? While I've not seen the show to put in context what's been removed, it sounds like the vast majority of the show is intact. It seems like there would be other, more business oriented drivers for shortening the performance versus responding in any way to any minority.

Good point, the entire performance is about the birth of Jesus.

They would only be bowing if they removed it completely. It is the story of the birth of Christ. I would rather have it not shortened, but still enjoy it.

No, I saw it a week ago today and the whole story was told of the birth of Christ.

If the narrative was like it was last year, then they changed it from the first 5 nights. The first 5 nights had the story about Jesus being the most influential person was deleted.

Yes, this part has been deleted. We also saw it last Saturday (12/7). The entire show is still about him being born. Only a small part was deleted.

Why would this be such a big deal?
I never understood the need for bibles in a hotel room. My parents were Jewish and used to be offended by it when we would vacation back in the 70's....

I would normally agree with you, it is about getting the most people to the show, except, when we went to make our annual Christmas card, there was no Merry Christmas borders this year. Happy Hanukkah and Feliz Navidad, but no Merry Christmas.

I'm not sure how you're going about making your annual Christmas cards, but at least through the Seasonal Favorites section of PhotoPass there are Merry Christmas card templates on prominent display. And their premiere holiday event at their signature park is called Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Thanks. I did not see that area on the photo pass page, only happy holidays and happy Hanukkah. Even the Disney photo pass did not know. Will look some more. Have a great December

I heard it was shortened because by the time they did the entire show and had the extra added on to illuminations, there were time issues for employees. At disney if you work more than 8 hours in a shift you get time ad a half. That's alot of extra in employee's pockets every night even for a couple of extra minutes on the clock

If that's the case, then why are the show times the same as in the past: 5:00, 6:45 and 8:15? Wouldn't it make more sense to start the second show at 6:30 and the third at 8:00?

BTW, my asking the reason for the deletions at Guest Relations yielded nothing of any use.

They deleted the song Do You Hear What I Hear and the narrative for One Solitary Life. They changed the traditional King James version of the birth of Christ for a newer updated version. They also added a little story about the writing of Silent Night, which did not seem to fit in with the rest of the narrative. If the show needed to be shorter, there is plenty that could have been cut toward the end of the show, after the Hallelujah Chorus. The show is still very very good, but has lost some of the impact. In short, it is watered down.
