I think I've convinced DH that DLR is the (only) place to celebrate my 40th! Trouble is, it's dec 2, so we'll have to contend with CP. I'm thinking we'll do Fri afternoon through Sunday, fly home Monday. We are me, DH, DS 11, 9, 22 mo.

Will fireworks be cancelled on CP nights? What times are the two processionals? Is there usually an evening holiday parade (which would be cancelled)?

We will be trying to avoid the CP chaos, so any tips for that would be great! I'm thinking WOC dessert for Sat or Sun night.

Thanks for your expertise! I can't imagine a more magical place to turn 40 (since apparently that IS happening!).

Fireworks will go off as normal as long as no winds. The processionals are at 530 adn 745p. The evening parade has usually been backed up to 1 and 3p (or there about.

Avoid Main St from 430pm-9pm. Otherwise, the rest of the parks are great!

Regarding the nighttime parade, I'm not sure if one is usually scheduled that time of year, but if there is it might not be cancelled. I went to CP during the 60th, so Paint the Night was scheduled, and it went forward despite CP. If I recall correctly, it just made a sharp left turn to exit at the end of main street instead of doing the usual loop.

Right, but when it was just the regular Christmas parade, the evening parade usually went off at 7p, so on CP nights, they backed up the parades to 1 and 3p.

Thanks, this helps a ton!

I think I have a better picture of what to expect.

If we avoid the area, staying in DL, but decide we want to leave the park, what is the best exit strategy? Railroad around to Main Street Station? (Or is CP right there?)

I would say chances are - though I've never been on a CP night - that they will have CM directing you to use the backstage routes to keep people moving as you come into Main Street. They usually open them up during high capacity days and events after fireworks, etc. I'm only guessing, but maybe someone else knows for sure.

This is great. I turn 40 on November 29th and on November 30th I will be picking DH, DD9 and DD5 up at school (he works at their school) and telling them that we're going to DL since there's no school on Friday. I figure since it's my birthday I can get away with it (he doesn't feel quite the same as I do about DL ). I did tell him to keep that weekend open and not plan a thing.

Anyway, I forgot about the CP so I'm glad you posted this!

The CP is literally on the train station, so there's no way the train will be running then.

When we were there main street was extra busy because people were also camping out for paint the night. They had CMs directing one-way traffic and making sure no one stopped in the walkways to watch CP. I actually found that entering and exiting the park was as fast or faster than usual with them urging everyone to keep moving. But if you wanted to go anywhere on main street itself, it would be tricky.
