This is our first xmas trip, and we are SOOOOO excited!!! CP sounds wonderful, but I'm wondering what your thoughts are about bringing young kids? We have a 4 yr old and twin 2 yr olds. They are generally well-behaved and quiet, but like any kid, if they are sitting for too long they'll start to get antsy. Is there a way to get out once we are in? I don't want to distract anyone else from their enjoyment.

Can anyone tell me how long it is? If I don't care how close my seats are, what's the latest you think we can arrive to try to get seats? Can we hear it from outside?

Thanks!

My kids were 6 and 10 last year and they thought it was boring. I kind of did too - sorry I know that is very undisney. We had a dinner package which was helpful, but we still had to wait in line. I do not recommend San Angel though.

It really is a beautifully moving presentation. I have a short video (marginal quality, as shot on a digital camera with a video function) of one of the songs during last year's CP http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8255250883169915165&q=murphy+candlelight

It takes about 35 minutes or so. So if the kids can make it, by all means give it a try. If you do not do a dinner package, you will still most very likely be able to have seating in the rear of the theater (it is an outdoor theater venue). That is a plus too, giving you easy access if you feel you want to leave it early. And you will be just fine, just get up and leave, no problem. I would get there maybe 20 minutes before (assuming you are not going actually at Christmastime). And even if you do not get a seat, you can easily hear it from just outside the venue.

By all means, give it a try.

PS: Make sure to check the DIS meet board for the next Chicago DIS meet, we have 3 or 4 a year here.

My 12 year old thinks it's boring. My toddler loved it. The only thing that was too long was the standby line. We needed to wait in line thru 1 show to get to see the next.

My DD(10) just started liking it last year. DD(8) and DH fall asleep every year! They are not going with DD10 and me this year! My dds have been to many shows over the years(Phantom, Chicago, Annie, symphony concerts, ballets,Cirque, etc) and they have always been well behaved and love every minute. But CP- I spent many years making them go because I wanted to go. No more! I am tired of the complaints about how boring it is!

IMO- I would not take young ones! It is not worth the wait with the major possibilty of having to leave. And after YEARS of hearing how boring it is...spare yourself the pain!!!!

If you are not sure that your little ones will enjoy (or at least tolerate) the CP, but you and your DH would like to see it, try this -

Get something to eat and/or drink at the Amercian Counter Service location in the American Pavillion. Grab one of the tables outside near the theater. You won't be able to see much (if anything), but you will be able to hear the music and most of the narration. No one will mind if yor little ones fidget or make some noise at the CS tables. IMHO, the narration & the music is what makes the CP so magical - there really isn't all that much to see if you are a little one, LOL.
