As I understand it, the CLP runs about 40 minutes which puts the end right about 9PM. Since this is when the Illuminations is suppose to start, do you stay in your seat and watch from there or do you have to exit? Please share your experiences--thanks.

You will have to leave your seat as the American Pavillion will block the show from your view, except perhaps, for a few of the high fireworks.

Illuminations starts at 9:30 in December. You wouldn't be able to see anything from the theater anyway. It usually isn't too crowded in Epcot during that time of year (except christmas week) so it shouldn't be a problem getting a spot for Illuminations after the candlelight processional.
