Candelight Processional

I was there last year and the night of the CM parties, DL closed at 6 and DCA closed at 9. It was a pretty light week. On CP Saturday, we were only at DCA in the morning and then left to meet friends. In 2 hours, we rode TSM, all the rides in A Bugs Land (some twice)- including Its Tough to be a Bug, and Soarin'. Crowds were manageable in the morning, but building fast. I now love the holiday season and this was my favorite trip, despite how much I like visiting in the summer.

We were there last year and I remember the rain very well. Like you, I don't mind the rain, but last year it ruined our plans. We specifically came down that weekend to watch the Candlelight Processional. On the weather channel and radio, there were constant warnings of a big snow storm coming to the
Grapevine. So on Sunday night, the night we were supposed to watch the show, we checked out of Paradise Pier early, and left before we couldn't get through the pass.

I was sooooo disappointed, and I actually cried. I had been looking forward for months to finally seeing it at DL. We saw it at WDW and loved it. I wish DL could do it more often like WDW, but the space just does not allow for it every weekend. *I guess they could move it to DCA* but then there would be mutiny. They have been doing the CP for for about 52 years I believe. That is quite a tradition, that should be kept up at DL!!

Well, we are going to try again this year. :goodvibes

Hopefully no snow storms over the pass.

I think that the CP may be moved to DCA - so prepare for the mutiny!! There was already a mention on another site - I think it was MousePlanet but can't recall - of how the idea of a CP at DCA is being talked about for next year. They supposedly want to have the CP at the Hyperion.

I have not seen the CP yet, but my idea of it is that it would fit much better against the old-fashioned Americana backdrop of Main Street than in the Hyperion. My guess is that if DLR has plans for something new to be their signature holiday event in DL (like a Very Merry Christmas Party, for example), then they would want to send the CP to DCA to balance things out a bit. So if the CP leaves DL, I'm pretty sure we will get something else in its place. But I don't think it will happen until at least next year - maybe not even until after the DCA transformation is done. If this switcheroo of the CP occurs, it definitely won't be this year.

They've already scaled down the Halloween Time celebration and it sounds as if there will be no traces of Halloween in DCA at all. Supposedly the lack of Halloween touches in DCA is all because of the "work" that they are doing as part of the billion dollar makeover, but I tend to think - and have always thought - that DLR wants to push WoC as much as possible this whole year, and to kind of focus on HalloweenTime in any way in DCA would take away from the massive attention to WoC. In any case, I'm not expecting much in DCA for the holiday season this year for the same reasons. They will probably have to stick up a few decorations in DCA because Christmas is a bigger holiday than Halloween. But otherwise, I think once all the initial WoC buzz has worn off and the work has been finished, we may see the CP at DCA, and if not the CP - if they keep the CP in DL - then there may be a Very Merry Christmas Party in DCA.

JH87: Disneyland in the rain is  :woohoo: :thumbsup2 ! Sure, some rides will be closed, and there won't be any fireworks, but between the way the Park seems to empty & the added atmosphere of the wet weather, it's my favorite time to be there! Add in the holiday lights & decorations, and, well...it was amaaaaaaaazing!

I have to agree, DL in the rain is great, we're from Seattle, so rain is normal for us. We were there in Feb 2010 and one of the days it started raining at about 10:30a and finally stopped at 5:30p. At dinner time we walked up to BB at 5p and got waterside seats for 4 with virtually no wait and without ressies. After dinner we went to Fantasyland and walked on to PP.

Wet pavement makes for nice photographs at night (IMO), add in the holiday lights, it would be an awesome picture.

We'll be down this weekend too because the kid's school schedule has a day off for that Friday and we scheduled it without knowing about CP, but if it's busy we'll roll with the punches.

Hmmm....December 11th and 12th seem kind of late for them to be having the CP at DL, seeing that they always do it the first weekend of December. I haven't seen those dates announced anywhere else yet, but that doesn't mean that this is incorrect - they had to get it from somewhere. Laughing Place usually gets their stuff from official Disney sources. They even have the narrator announced. So it sounds pretty specific.

I just can't imagine why they are having the CP one weekend later than they normally have it. Is something else happening at DLR on 12/4 and 12/5 this year?

Thanks for posting this, greens_in_WA - if it's true, it's definitely news because I don't think anyone was expecting the CP to be on 12/11 and 12/12, but I always say that Disney could switch things up on us at any time and pull a fast one. And it looks like they did!!

I need to post this on the Christmas thread, in particular...

I could be wrong, but I don't think that link to the Processional is for this year. If you click on the Collectibles Event link in the article, it brings you to the 1999 event. And Olympia Dukakis was the narrator in 1999. So I THINK that may be a link from 1999. ( I posted this on the Christmas thread, too).

I also just replied to you in the Christmas thread!!:rotfl2: Yes, I hope you are correct. As busy as the holiday season is now, I would think they'd want to get the CP out of the way early in the month, like they usually do.

But if this is the case, shame on Laughingplace.com for posting info that's 11 years old!!

Let's hope that the CP will be on December 4th and 5th, as previously expected!!

Well I also checked out the article. It is definitely old. It had the wrong location and narrator listed for last year's event

Sooo.....shame on Laughing Place! :guilty:

Sorry for the bad info.

It's really pathetic that they have information that is 11 years old on their site. I thought it was legit because the dates matched up to this year and that it said "This Year" without actually giving the date.

Still have not seen any "official" dates for this.

Also, you can't find this page from laughing place's home page....you'd think that an announcement like this would make headlines.

Many websites don't purge old pages from their server so while there aren't links to these old pages from their current pages......search engines have gotten too good for their britches, lol....and can snoop out ages old information.

I wish that websites would post YEARS when they post dates as well....of course it's also a pet peeve of mine when bloggers don't put dates on their posts....if I'm reading old pages I'd like to know it, lol.

Keep in mind that Disboard threads that are ages old sometimes rise from the ashes too...because someone did a search and then responded to something that search found, even thought it's been dead for year(s).

Even if you do a search on laughing place that is the page that is pulled up. Yes post years not just the words "this year."
