Hi all

Each aug wwe combine a family vacation with DD's birthday. She doesn't have a party but we do bring a friend on the trip. DD prefers doing this over having a party which I love and appreciate.

Because it is her birthday we let DD choose 2 or 3 places and DH and I make the final decision based on price.

The last few years we have gone to amusement parks (disney, hershey, busch gardens). This year DD would like to go to Kings Doninion or cancun. I am all for going to cancun but wonder if any of you have stayed at any nice and kid friendly all inclusives in cancun (either mays riviera or cancun itself). I have been to cnancun but that was about 15 years ago.

Thanks

Lara

You may have thought of this already, but DD's friend will need a passport too. Be sure the friend has one or plans ahead to get one (including paying the fees for it).

I went to Cancun 20+ years ago and it was to Club Med, which wasn't kid friendly at the time. ;) But now they do list it as a family destination on their website.

We stayed at the Gran Caribe Real at the beginning of June. It was fun. We were picky eaters, so a little disappointed in the food. But the hotel was nice and the location was good. Their beach is beautiful.

If you head to Cancun add the Selvatica ziplining to your itinerary. My kids had so much fun doing that and so did we.

About 4 years ago we stayed at the Iberostar, Playa Lindo in Riveria Maya.
It was a great family vacation. Plenty to do at the resort for the kids. At the time they were 4, 5 and 9.
We really had a great trip.

Thanks for the tips. The friend in question does have a passport so that shouldn't be a problem.

If anyone else has resorts to recommend I would love to hear about it.

Lara

We stayed at the Riu Palace and loved it. It was a lot of couples but there is another Riu right next door that I think is more families. A picky friend at work stayed there and raved about it. I highly recommend Riu after our stay.

I would recommend checking tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews.

We use apple vacations . com and click on specials. Just look for ones that say all inclusive.

We stayed at the Azul Sensatori this year. The resort is divided into two areas - an adult area - with its own pool, and a family area. Our room had a divider between the master bedroom area and the kids sleeping area. That made it a particularly nice family resort. Food was good. Beach in that spot, however, isn't great - its rocky.

We love the Grande Caribe Real resort in Cancun.....great family suites, kids love the kids club, and beautiful beaches and a great price. We always go in the winter and have had lots and lots of food choices so never a problem with food. Also loved the myan riviera, but was nice to be in cancun closer to the airport and the kids prefer that resort...........

Dh and I stayed here:

in April 2007. It was a beautiful resort that we both thought would be great to bring the kids to someday. It sits on a rocky shore so there is not the traditional long beach but they have an inlet bay with a sandy beach. The inlet was very calm and safe for kids to swim and snorkel. Lots of fish to see snorkeling there! The Xcaret park is adjacent to the resort so you can walk over and enjoy that. We hope to take our kids someday!

Look into the Palace resorts - there are several in the Cancun, Mayan Riveria, Cozumel area. They are great resorts - we stayed at the Moon Palace and visited a couple of the others. We would visit there again in a heartbeat. We had 6 kids along for a family vacation, and the kids and grown-ups enjoyed the Moon Palace.

I highly recommend any of the Iberostar hotels in the Mayan Riviera. Our favorite is the Iberostar Maya and Lindo... they have a wave pool, lazy river, fantastic activities all day long for both adults, teens, and kids. And it is a wonderful gated property, with security (in case the other family is worried).
The Iberostar Paraiso Beach and the Del Mar are right next door if you are looking for something slightly less expensive. They are still part of the gated community, but do not have the shared facility privledges that you would if you stay at the pricier two (maya and Lindo).

Have fun! We go to the Mayan Riviera every year for Cinco de Mayo.

We really had a great trip.

We have also stayed with Iberostar: Quextal/Tucan which is outside of Playa Del Carmen (about 35 mintes from Cancun). Very nice place, lovely beach, decent food, lots to do. There are a whole mess of AI along that same beach, and I'm sure they are all fine.

We just stayed at Iberostar Tucan a few years ago and at the property next door, Sandos Playacar. Both great with a beautiful beach. It is a gated community and close to Playacar.

I would suggest reading reviews at tripadvisor. Do a search for cancun or playa del carmen and you can read forums and resort reports. It was very helpful.

We've stayed at Dreams and the Gran Caribe Real - Dreams was by far the better of the 2. Dream had great food, fun activities, a great kid's club that stayed open later.

Gran Caribe was ok, but we didn't really trust the kids club. There was no schedule, I saw little kids leaving on their own, the kids pool area was nice but the pool was 4 feet deep all around. Very tiny game room. More of a party atmosphere.

We were able to do an adult dinner at Dreams because the kid's club stayed open late. They also had pagers like DCL (GCR did not).

Dreams had 2-3 sitdown restaurants where as GCR was mainly buffet

Yes, we stayed there in December. It is the Riu Cancun. I would highly recommend it.

we just went to the lindo over easter....it was fantastic....DH and I travel quite a bit for work so we are somewhat travel snobs....i knew nothing about the resort but did a lot of research on it - we absolutely loved it.....pools were great and my daughter loved the wave pool and the lazy river. the only complaint i had was with the kids club - after visiting it we were less than impressed - not sure if we were just spoiled by the kids club on the disney cruise - but NO way would i leave my child at the lindo club - aside from that, we loved it...and would go back
