Cancer-Causing Chemical Found in Children's Bath Products

Thank you for the info. One of the products that my children have used in the past is on the list. I have been started to use all natural soap products home made by a woman in New York State, she is just now starting to develop shampoo. Also, cleaning products are extremely dangerous and are believe to be cancer-causing. In my house I use a product called "Greening the Cleaning" (you can buy it in Shope Rite and Bed Bath & Beyond), it is supposed to be the best all natural product on the market, it is an all purpose cleaner and there is a window cleaner available too.

Steinman said parents should be outraged that companies are willing to spend a significant amount of money on entertainment licensing agreements that entice children but won't spend pennies to remove contaminants such as 1,4-Dioxane.

Exactly.

My boys made their first batches of soap last year, and we've had a ball doing it! Well, except the first time when we were following a foxfire recipe...melted the metal strainer!

For shampoo, we use Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. Doesn't leave any funky stuff!

Does anyone know if the Herbal Essences they mention in the article is the current shampoo they have out. I know they used to have shampoos that were in the "Rainforest Flowers" collection. They no longer call it that though. I'm really concerned because that's the shampoo and conditioner I use daily.

The second article had more useful info than the first, which had lots of 'probables' in it. Of course, we are exposed to cancer-causing things every time we go outside, so I don't worry about a probable human carcinogen in my shampoo, as this part of the second article stated so well:

A probable human carcinogen, 1,4-Dioxane penetrates skin, although much of it evaporates when used, according to FDA documents. The chemical is not added to products but can be an unintended byproduct of manufacturing.

The fact that we are exposed constantly, is all the more reason to limit the exposure we can. Our water is contaminated, and our air is some of the worst in the USA. No reason to consume and slather also. My opinion, of course!
