Cancelling Room/Tickets Package Question

Hi all,

DH and I are currently in the process of buying DVC through resale. We're set to close on Wednesday, but it will still be a few weeks until we are able to make any room reservations. We have a cash room & tickets package booked already for our trip in September which we will have to cancel. My question is, if we cancel that package will our FP+ reservations also be cancelled? Is there a way to cancel the room reservation and link the tickets with the FP+ reservations to our DVC room reservation? I was also thinking we could just buy our tickets separately before our 60 day window opens on 7/10, but without it being linked to a room reservation I'm now thinking we wouldn't be able to book our FP+ until the 30 day window.

We're really hoping to have our DVC member ID by the time our 60 day window opens but we're trying to prepare ourselves if that doesn't happen.

Any insight is appreciated! Thank you :)

This may not be a real issue for you. September availability by the time you get a member number may be close to zero. Depending on your dates, you're already potentially looking at a split stay.

If you book a room only, and buy & link the tickets separate, when you cancel your room only reservation the FP will stay. If it's a package you lose it all.

Thank you! I think we'll cancel our package and try booking a room only and then the tickets separately. So when we cancel the room only reservation, we can then link the tickets with the FP+ to our DVC room reservation?

Yes, I know :( We asked our friend who is a DVC member to look at availability for us and we're definitely going to have to do a split stay. We didn't think the resale process was going to take this long, but at least we'll be able to go and that's always a positive!

Well, technically you'll be adding your DVC reservation to your tickets -- which would already be attached to your My Disney Experience account. It doesn't become a package. You will have tickets and you will have a DVC reservation.

Great, thanks for all your help!

I booked a room only with linked tickets, and when I canceled it, it cancelled my FastPasses.

Book a room-only and purchase your tickets separately. Link the room reservation and your tickets to your MDE account. Book DVC, link the reservation to MDE THEN cancel the room-only. As long as you have a WDW resort and valid ticket media linked in MDE, your FP+ shouldn't change.

That's strange. I've done this twice (Aug '15 & Mar '16) and maintained my FP when cancelled my on site stay. We had annual passes so there was definitely no "package." It was a room only. I will add both cancellations were under the 30 day mark, so maybe that was the difference? How far out did you cancel?

More than 30 days. That was probably it.

Until recently you could book a room + ticket bundle. It wasn't a package. It had the same cancellation policy as a room only, and the tickets were refundable. The room + ticket bundle is no longer available.

Now you only have two choices: a package or a room-only reservation with standalone nonrefundable tickets.

So if you had booked a room+ticket bundle and cancelled, it would cancel the ticket part and you would lose your fastpasses (if you didn't link some standalone tickets to your MDX before midnight). If you booked a room and then standalone tickets, cancelling the room wouldn't cancel your tickets and your fastpasses would not be affected.

Thank you for all your help! Looks like booking room only and then purchasing standalone tickets, both linked to MDE, will do the trick! :D
