Cancelling- Returned points

I booked 3 nights in 2020 UY by borrowing 90 points from 2021. I did this back in September.

A few days ago I cancelled as I'm not sure we can make it due to being in the UK and I'm thinking sliding the whole trip to 2021. Was going to dump those borrowed point into RCI. I cancelled the reservation about a week ago and the points were in 2020 UY as I thought.

So I login today to have a look at RCI and I noticed those points have now been put back into 2021 UY. Is that normal or have I just been very lucky?

That has been the policy during COVID. Borrowed points are being returned to their original UY.

Not normal for normal times, but something they're doing during Covid times. One of the reasons we went ahead and pulled the plug on a Spring Break trip now, rather than waiting until closer to the trip. They can stop doing this at any time.

It takes a few days for the points to go back into the right box when you cancel borrowed points.
