Cancelling reservations

How late can you cancel a reservation without a penalty? When you do cancel a reservation, what happens to the points? Can you bank them after a cancellation or do they have to used in the current use year?

Also, I am new to the boards and can figure most of the shortcuts for the names (ie: BLT = Bay Lake Tower) but not sure what CM stands for?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you cancel 31 days or more out from your check-in day then there is no penalty. If you cancel 30-1 day out your points go into holding status and there are restrictions on booking with those points. They would need to be used by the end of your UY or they would expire and you can only book reservations 60 days or less from your new desired check in date. If you cancel on the day of check in then you forfeit all points for the entire reservation.

Also, if you cancel 31 days or more then your points return to your current UY. If you are past your banking deadline then they must be used in the current UY or they will expire. If you are still within your banking period then you may do that if they are bankable points - ie, if they were not already banked or if they were not borrowed from the next UY.

If canceled during the first 8 months of your UY, you can bank the points and not have to worry about how to use them up. That's why picking your UY is important.

Just one more piece. Any borrowed points used will remain in the UY that you borrowed them in to and would expire at the end of that UY, even if you do cancel 31 days or more.

Unless, of course, you cancelled 1-30 days from your check-in date. Then, they go into holding regardless of how far into your use year your reservation occurs and would not be bankable. But you would still have until the end of the current use year to use up those points, subject to the restrictions on holding points.

It would also help to know what kind of reservation you are cancelling? There may be additional restrictions on those points.
