Cancelling reservation and making a new one? Keep Fastpasses?

I have a reservation for 6 nights in August at Bay Lake Tower. Due to a slight change in plans, we may do 4 nights at another resort with a three night Disney Cruise and cancel the original one. If I cancel my Bay Lake tower reservation and make another one for four of the same days at another resort, will I lose the fast passes that I already have? I'm confused on how this would work and would hate to lose some of them! Any advice on the best way to do this would be appreciated!

My advice is to call and ask, and make the changes live, on the phone with a CM who can verify that everything transferred over. I would think that they could assign whatever the new ressie # is to the already existing activity or vice~versa,as people adjust their plans all the time. As far as FP , my guess would be that if your ticket has enough days to cover the FP selections, hopefully they can just transfer over. Since you will still be on site the 60 day timing should still be valid. I have a very similar question , basically wondering if my account scan # or ID # (whatever links the specific tickets to my MDE account)changes if we have to postpone or cancel..or is it like a fingerprint, it doesn't change, just my timing and choices change? That if we cancel the info just goes away until I re-enter new dates/choices. If I don't bother changing FP times and our trip doesn't occur my tix are still valid but my FP times will have stayed in place unless I changed them, which would be pretty rude of me to hog slots when others are trying to book.

ETA: just re-read your post and you don't specify if your new resort is on or off site, that may make a difference if you are more than 30 days out

Can you just modify the original reservation? You can just call and switch hotels/change the dates - your reservation number would remain the same.

Or are you trying to book the land portion through DCL?

The only way to keep them is to modify your existing reservation. A new reservation would require new reservations as they do not cross link (did this not too long ago). You can call and ask, but I'm not sure the computer system has the capability.

I would suggest calling and modifying your existing reservation to a new resort and your reduced stay. I'm not sure how that will effect the FP+ ressies. Hopefully only canceling the days you drop.

Going by what I have seen on the boards, you should be able to get the FP+ you want within a 30 day window. Most reports stated they got exactly what they wanted. Since you have time, I would say it may not matter. Other than the time to go back and rebook them. Good luck.
