What is the policy on cancelling a DVC reservation?

We are still doing research on DVC.....:headache:

If you cancel more than 30 days out, your points go back to your original use year where they came from as long as they were not borrowed or banked points (then they return to where you borrowed/banked them to).

Less than 30 days out, they become reservation points with more restrictions on their usage.

Day of cancellations forfeit all points.

Actually less than 31 days out they become holding points and reservations using those points can only be made 60 days in advance which at certain times of year can severely limit you ability to use them. Those points cannot be transferred or banked.

Reservation points are when you take points outside of DVC - Disney Cruise, non-DVC hotels. Once you make a reservation outside of DVC, they can no longer be used for DVC resorts if you cancel and must be used by the end of your use year.

This is where you UY becomes important. If you cancel during the first 8 months of your UY, you can bank your points and not be forced to use them if you are unable to get the reservation that you want.

So if I have a OCT UY then I have until May to cancel and bank the points?...Is that correct??

yes.

but that is only true for the current year's allotment of pts - any banked or borrowed pts will still expire at the end of that UY (at the end of sept).

Good point. :thumbsup2

The possibility exists that you may be able to reallocate your points, but that is a whole other animal.
