Cancelling and Rebooking - Online or Call?

Hi everyone! We have two back-to-back BWV reservations at the end of January 2023. One is for a BW view studio and the other one is G/P view (one night). I've been stalking for months and haven't been able to nab a BW view to replace the G/P night. Waitlist, unfortunately, hasn't come through.

If something does pop up, would you try and cancel the G/P reservation online and immediately book the BW one? Or is this too dangerous, given how close we are to our trip? Was thinking of using two devices to minimize any lag time. Or would you call and have Member Services do it for you? Just worried it won't be there anymore if I encounter a wait.

And just to make absolutely sure: I know the points will briefly go into holding should I cancel the G/P view room under 30 days. That shouldn't be a problem, should it, if I then try to book the BW view room? The trip is less than 60 days out, and the points will be used before the end of our use year.

Thank you!

I would not try that. You can simply modify the G/P one and change it to the B/W and then ask member services to merge the reservations. Also, in terms of holding that won't work as if you cancel one, you are correct they go into holding. But then if you use those holding points on the other reservation then the points they replace will go into holding since you are under 30 days. It would only work if the one you are modifying to use the holding points is between 30 and 60 days (at least this is how MS explained it to us last year).

D'oh! I didn't even think about trying to modify. Thank you! That makes a lot more sense.

Yes, and you can stalk via the Modify function as well, so that you can book it if it pops up. That works better, instead of checking availability and then, if you find it, having to open your booking and try to modify it.

Don't expect them to actually merge it so many issues over the past year or so with that.

When you get to the resort though you stop by the front desk and keep the same room for the full trip without issue.

I've not had any problems with them merging my reservations. It may take 10-14 days to do it, but there's never been a problem.

They merge mine all the time and so far, no issues and no needing to change rooms.

Even when I am booked on two of my memberships, so far never had to change rooms.

Correct you will not need to move but they may have issues merging rooms.

Thats fine but they do have issues sporadically so one should not count on it being a guarantee. Just know that you wont need to change rooms even if they can't merge the reservations.

Have even needed to make tentative cash reservations simply so I could get my 60+10 booking window for dining on two different trips this year because MS tried, couldn't merge, and escalated to engineering with no resolution. There was a thread earlier this year on it as well with others having the issue as well.

Merging can’t happen when they are different memberships.

But I always have my rooms booked differently on the same membership when same room and resort done prior to arrival so I have jusT one reservation.

MS always gets it done. I put the request on as soon as I have all the nights. And it’s done in a week.
