DH and I have a reservation to fly down on Spirit next week. Now I don't think DH will be able to go. I spoke with CS at Spirit and asked if I should just cancel his ressie online and would it affect mine. I told her I know I would not get $$ back because it is non-refundable and that he was not making a different ressie, just not going at all. I figured they could resell that seat... anyway, to cancel it would cost an additional $100(on top of the lost fare). I didn't cancel his ressie, but do not know what to do. We are both on the same reservation number. Has anyone had this dilemma???

The way it works is they take $100 from your paid fare as a "service charge" and you get whatever remains for a future flight purchase. So, if your flight was $200, you'll get a $100 credit to use later (assuming they're still in business). It's not that they are charging you an additional $100 to cancel a $200 flight, so you're out $300.

This is from Spirit's website:

NON-REFUNDABLE BOOKINGS

Canceling Non-Refundable Bookings:
Failure to notify Spirit Airlines in advance or by not boarding a flight results in forfeiture of the reservation.

Cancellations made online
at spiritair.com:

Service Fee: $100.00 USD

Cancellations made through
Reservations or at Airport locations:

Service Fee: $110.00 USD

Reservations must be cancelled prior to the actual departure time. A service fee is deducted per person and any remaining credit stays on the original booking and can be applied toward future bookings. Credits must be used and all travel booked and completed within one (1) year from the original booking/purchase date of the original reservation.

Oh... I guess I misunderstood. So, at the airport I can cancel his reservation and they will deduct the $110 from his total fare. Have you done this before??
I was just afraid to mess with the reservation and have something go wrong with my reservation.Thanks.

No, I've not cancelled with Spirit. I've only flown Spirit a couple of times out of DTW. They are not my first choice of air, but sometimes the prices can't be beat.

I would think they'd let you just cancel your DH's ticket at the counter. The web explanation says you must cancel before the actual departure "time," not the departure day. It costs $10 more to cancel at the airport than to cancel via internet.

Sorry I don't have actual experience with this.
