I have a reservation treehouse villas Dec 27th - Jan 3rd I really hope I dont have to canx but trying to figure out my options.

It is a combination of Oct 2008 & borrowed Oct 2009 points ( Home SSR) )

The way I understand that I have up until 31 days before check -in to change or canx. So it doesnt matter if I canx today or anytime up to 31 days?

The reservation starts in Dec 27th 2009, so therefore the points go back to Oct 2009? and are good until Oct 2010? Can I bank these points?

It looks like your UY starts in October. Thus your 2009 UY starts this coming October, 2009. So the vacation in December of 2009 falls within your 2009 UY. I don't see how you could have borrowed 2009 points for this vacation since those points are already within your 2009 UY. I can see you using banked 2008 points for it, though.

One cannot un-bank points nor can one un-borrow points, so any points that you needed to bank or borrow for a vacation would stay within the UY you banked or borrowed them into.

If your reservation is in Dec 09, you shouldn't have "borrowed 2009" points in it - that falls in your 2009 use year if your use year is October.

Sounds like your reservation is made with BANKED 2008 points and current 2009 points (or potentially could be current 2009 points and BORROWED 2010 points) (and by current I don't mean current right NOW, but current for your vacation dates).

So if that 1st understanding is correct ...

If you cancel 31 days or more out, all the points would go back to / remain in your 2009 use year, but the portion of them that you already borrowed from 2008 are there forever, and can't be banked to anywhere else, but have to be used in your 2009 use year or lost. Your 2009 points used for the reservation could be banked into 2010 if needed, following the normal banking/borrowing window guidelines.

I really hate these use year questions, but I think my answer is correct.

depends. let's start with what we know for certain: it is a reservation in your 2009 UY.

if you are using "2008" pts, then they would have already been banked from 2008 into 2009...you can't bank 2008 pts again, so they would expire at the end of sept 2010.

if you are using current 2009 pts, then yes, you would still be within your banking window and can bank them into your 2010 UY if you prefer (as long as you bank them by the end of may 2010).

if you are using borrowed pts, then they would be from your 2010 UY. borrowed pts may not be banked, and will expire at the end of your 2009 UY on sept 30, 2010.

Can't bank points that were borrowed or previously banked and can't bank in the last 4 months of the UY though the latter isn't an issue for you this time. I'm confused as are others. Since this is in your 2009 UY is it 1. banked 2008 points plus current UY 2009 points or 2. 2009 points plus borrowed 2010 or 3. banked 2008 and borrowed 2010 points. Number 3 is your worst case scenario and would not be able to bank any of those points. With the other 2, you'll be able to bank the 2009 points but not any banked 2008 or borrowed 2010 points and they would expire Sept, 2010.

It sounds like your trip is booked with banked Oct UY 08 points and current Oct UY 09 points.

If you cancel the trip, 31 days or more ahead of time, the Oct UY 09 points can still be banked into your 2010 Oct UY.

Remember, its the time of travel that determines whether or not points are borrowed, not the time you make the reservation. When you booked this reservation, even though it was before your Oct UY 09 started, you were not in a borrowing situation since the trip itself is part of your 09 UY.
