I have never cancelled a trip before. I found out I may require surgery which will prevent me from riding many of the rides for 12-18 months. I have booked a package with trip insurance. I have paid the deposit only so far. Is all of it refundable? I know my airline tickets are not but we will change those to another destination (like an easy peasy beach vacation that I can actually handle). Any experience?

My understanding is that a package can be cancelled 30 days or more from the arrival date, with no penalty.

If you have trip insurance, you should be able to cancel up til day of, or whatever the terms of the insurance state. That should in theory even cover your flights. Without trip insurance, you should be able to cancel a package more than 30 days out, and then just be responsible for flight cancellation/rebooking fees.

Everything is it’s just refunded back to you the way you payed like gift cards or credit cards ect

If insurance is through Disney and they booked flights through Disney, yes.

If insurance is third party and they told the insurance company of their flights to include them, then yes.

If it’s through Disney but tickets booked elsewhere, or through a third party and they didn’t include the flights, then no.
