Cancelling 1 of 3 rooms and switching occupants

I have 3 staterooms booked. 2 were through onboard bookings. Staterooms are not yet paid in full. In the 2 onboard booking room, 2 in one (not the one room is reserved in) and 1 in 2nd onboard booking are cancelling. I am thinking to cancel the 3rd (no discount) room and moving those 2 people, one each in to the other 2 rooms. Will that work?

How many people total to start with?

It may be doable, but it's might be that those people who you move will need to pay the prevailing rate to move to a different room.

You can certainly cancel and move people between rooms before the final payment date with no penalty. As PrincessShmoo said, the new people in each room may pay the current rate, rather than the rate at initial booking. However, if you simply cancelled one person in room 1 and 2 people in room 2, the remaining person in each room would pay almost the same fare as for 2 people, so moving new people in is a good option.
