When renting points from a DVC member, has anyone heard of their reservation being cancelled for no reason?

There generally is a reason. It could be the member was just a jerk, but there have been several posters on here with reservations cancelled because Disney foreclosed on the loan and took back the contract.

Thank you. My wife usually does the booking for us and we have never had an issue previously. We went online last week to look at dining reservations for a December trip and our trip had disappeared. We contacted the DVC member and he said he would have to look into it because there were about 8 reservations that disappeared on his end. The foreclosure thing might make sense.

Being severely delinquent on annual dues would also result in having the members account frozen and any upcoming reservations cancelled.

We have had Disney cancel and issue new reservation numbers for some unknown reason.

Thanks everyone for the information. It sounds like a foreclosure or annual dues issue. The member contacted us this morning. He hasn't given us a definitive answer, but did say he was unable to make reservations at this time and would have to reimburse us.

Oh no! I was terrified when I rented points that something like that would happen. I am a very paranoid person. LOL I hope you can get your money back and rebook!

Oh no, my reservation went without a hitch. We had no trouble checking in. I was just scared that something would happen and grateful that it didn't. LOL

Im sorry to hear that this happened but at least the owner is reimbursing you since they can't fulfill the reservation for you. Others have not been so lucky. The disappointing piece will be getting another reservation from a different owner as that time of the year books up very quickly and it may not be possible. Good luck and I hope it all works out!!!

I am sorry to hear this to maybe try a brooker like David's. I hope it isn't too late to book something now for you and your wife. I hope you do get your money back. In the UK if you pay by credit card and something goes wrong the credit card company have to give you your money back. Does this apply in America? Although I am guessing it was a private rent maybe using PayPal?

I hope so, too. If mortgage and/or dues payments were so delinquent that DVC cancelled reservations, I really hope owner actually has funds to reimburse the rental payment. If OP used PayPal or credit card to pay, it would be worthwhile to begin investigating recovery options.

If payment never materializes, there may not be any worthwhile recourse available. Any form of legal filing may cost more than the amount of the rental.

Good luck!!!!

Thanks again everyone. We have been renting points for the last 5 years. December trip would have marked our 10th trip using points since then. We have never had an issue any other time. We went June 2016 using points from the same member and had an issue with our dining plan. We are slowly being reimbursed for that. Now we have this new issue. We have already rebooked with a different DVC member. It's just the hassle of trying to get the money back at this point. Still being owed over $400 for the dining plan snafu from our previous trip and now almost $800 for the December trip. He sent my wife an email this morning that he starts a new job next week and will start paying us back when he gets his first paycheck........crossing our fingers.

Since he is getting a new job sounds like he was delinquent on payments or dues to DVC.

As to Paypal they will not help renters as it is in their guidelines they do not permit the use of Paypal for timeshare rentals. Even though people do it, they won't support you if there is a problem with it. I am sure the risk involved is why.

That they are staying in touch and that you have been getting some reimbursements, albeit slowly, for the previous issue all sounds good. Hope it works out for the rest! Sometimes good people have hard times and that sounds very possible in this case. Also glad you were able to rebook with someone else. :thumbsup2

I can't imagine though, that this person did not know he was late on payments to DVC, if this is the case and yet he still went ahead with rentals.

What happened with the dining plan?

What happened with the dining plan?
Hi! 'the wife' here, lol:-). We added the dining plan months in advance of our June trip and when we showed up we didn't have it on our reservation. I contacted him and long story short, our dining plan was added to a different reservation that had already passed. He felt very bad and said that he would cover all of our costsfor the week. Our trip ended 6/10 and we are still waiting for about 400 more.

We really have no idea of the details. Obviously he was ok to make the reservations and might have thought that was only the point he had to get to.
