I cancelled our next Disney trip after being disillusioned by many of the recent changes. We had a decent time in May, but decided to stop trips for the time being.

HOWEVER, just checked in to an oceanfront golf and beach club and am reminded of the good (if not great) things about Disney resorts, particularly club level deluxe.

Valet
Parking and not driving during the stay
Beautifully themed and awesome smelling
Generally awesome CMs
Ability to get issues resolved mostly quickly, particularly having a concierge to assist
Mousekeepers
H20 products lol
Lots of dining and entertainment
Cleanliness

Plus many others. After getting settled at the beach, I looked at DH and said THIS is why we pay big bucks to go to Disney. Even now that it has some crappy changes. Even though we go on vacation fewer times. Our other vacations just don't measure up. So rebooking our cancelled Disney trip!

I have similar feelings but since many of our trips are very different than a disney trip, it's often hard to compare anything fairly. I think not driving while we're at WDW is one of our favorite perks. We drive into our resort, park the car and forget we own it LOL! I am so glad the minnie vans are back, can't wait to enjoy them again!

I hate some of the increased costs and costs for things that used to be free but we'll still go because it's where our family loves to go.

Honestly it sounds like maybe you have picked a bad resort on top of being homesick. We've traveled all over the world and stayed in many places that are just as nice if not nicer than Disney in the same price range. It does take work though, I scour reviews and check on maps for location of sites and such before I book. You mention cleanliness and staff issues 2-3 times apiece which makes me think the management there is what is rotten, not that it isn't Disney. Disney is great, but I really would hate to think you'd give up on all there is out there based on a bad trip. That said, other places are more 'choose your own adventure' - you can't just show up at place X and expect the action to come to you usually. You have to have a plan on where to go and what you want to do. Comparing a beach vacation to Disney is apples to oranges IMO. One is inherently passive and relaxing the other anything but.

Valet is an added fee even if staying concierge, right? Is the place you are at an all inclusive..? That would normally cover the dining and entertainment options as well. Much as I love H2O I would never book a resort based on that... I like the shampoo we buy at home too! :) We also LIKE the freedom of having a car, personally. We have a rental for our trip next week even though we don't HAVE to drive, I appreciate being able to sit down, & head out at our leisure without waiting for the bus or having to do transfers!
