I understand the policy of not giving ADR's away directly. I do not understand how it come to be that people cancel and then post or don't give ample time for people to respond before cancelling, especially when the res. is months in advance. Would it not be better if you want a disboarder to take advantage that you give a couple of days, at least, befor cancelling? Set mr straighty.

I agree. I missed out on a cancellation I've been dying for because I wasn't in front of the computer the minute it was posted. :(

I will be interested in hearing the response(s).

Hi! I've just had to change several of my ADRs around because of the Wishes Dessert party opening. I have all my ADRs linked to my reservation number so I can see them online. The Disney website doesn't let you have more than 1 ADR per meal period. So when I found my new ADR, a popup box appeared asking my to cancel my previous ADR. If I didn't cancel right then, I was risking losing the new ADR I wanted. So I cancelled & then posted on here right after I was done.

I am happy to help another Disser out, but not if it means booking seperate from my resort reservation, or risking not gettin the new ADR I need. Hope this helps explain why people can't wait for a response. :)

I agree with focusondisney, also some people don't have time to check back on the boards several times to see if anyone wants them. Some I've posted after canceling either weren't sought after ADRs or there was other availability at the same time so it was a waste of a post.

Thanks for the replies, that makes sense. Although there are people who cancel their trip altogether, or are changing the dates of their travel, so there is no "new" reservation that must in the moment take the place of an old reservation. I think in those circumstances it might be nice to give someone the opportunity to private message that they are interested in the ressie.

I eventually got the reservation I had been waiting for, but not from a Dis-er (I don't think) - it wasn't posted - I got it by chance.

You can have two at the same meal time. It justs ask you if you want to cancel one that you already have.

It told me to call if I wanted to keep both. Didn't want to call so I cancelled right then.
Also, I have four people and was able to make two different res for two each on the same night. Early around 5:30 and later around 8:00. Only way all four of us could get O'hana.

They recently changed this policy. I believe because people would make lots of reservations and either never cancel the ones they were not going to use or waited till the last minute to cancel. Not to mention it eats up all reservations for others.

Perhaps people just don't want to commit to be available and online at a specific time days in the future for something they are going to discard to a stranger. Whether there is advance warning or not, posting it here does give board members an advantage over the general public

This. And also the fact that you have to cancel instantly when making a new ADR for a similar time. Some people try to give the courtesy of some time before cancelling, but it's not a requirement. If it was a requirement, people would say to heck with it and cancel the ADR and then not post.

no one HAS to post that they are canceling, so i think you're complaining about people being nice, which isn't really fair. i understand the frustration, but you aren't owed the information and there are tons and tons of people canceling who are not on the dis at all.

Not complaining just trying to understand. It still seems that people could wait. I do not know why these boards prohibit giving them away when it is easy to change names and numbers of people with Disney.

PP's are correct. It's left up to each individual as to what they want to do to share. There is no right or wrong way for a person to post. Just because someone doesn't do it my way doesn't mean that they're wrong. They are doing what works for them and that's 100% right. :goodvibes

Also, Disney doesn't allow people to switch names anymore, so that's why the board doesn't support it anymore.

Quoted from the sticky at the top of the board.

New policy for threads - Trade/Transfer/Wanted threads are no longer allowed. Since Disney no longer allows transferring of reservations to new names, we will no longer support trading of ADRs.

If you and another poster choose to call Disney at the same time to attempt to reclaim a cancellation that is fine and outside of the boards.

Only Cancellation Notice posts will be allowed going forward.

Thank you for understanding the reason for this change.

Going forward, each Cancel thread will be for a specific month. Once that month is passed, the thread will be closed.

I sub to the cancellation thread so I get an instant email every time someone posts.

Me too, but you still have to be right at your computer when the post comes through.

I missed out the other day because I was out in the yard for a few hours (having a party for my birthday). I went in to use the restroom, decided to check my email real quick, and lo and behold, THE cancellation I needed!! But the email had come two hours prior and when I went to try and get that res it was long gone.

So subscribing to the thread helps, but I still think it would be nice if those who didn't have to immediately cancel (because they have to replace the old with a new res immediately) could give some time for those who might need it to see/find the post.

To those who think we're just complaining and there are no "rules", and that any post at all is better than none, well of course that's true. No one HAS to do anything extra for anyone. And it's true that any notice is certainly nice and better than no notice at all. I'm just thinking if you're going to the trouble of alerting others you're going to cancel, and you're doing it here because you want another dis-er to have first crack at it, then why not give a little time. Otherwise why bother at all - it will probably just go to a random non-dis-er anyway. The whole point is that the person cancelling this time may be the next person who needs a reservation themselves and so this board is about "being on the inside and helping each other out". You would think that those cancelling would also want to be the ones to have the first crack, insider info for the ressies they want in the future. That's all. No one's suggesting it should be a rule or a must-do.

I see that some people have been waiting lately, and I am grateful. :-)
