Okay, once again I'm asking a question that has probably been answered dozens of times. Does anyone ever cancel their reservations for DVC resorts? Do renters ever cancel, or are there any chances of dates coming available in Dec of this year? If so, what is the best way of finding out if something comes available? TIA!

yep.

not too good. there have probably been DVCers on waitlists for some resorts since february. maybe for a larger resort like SSR or OKW...maybe.

i lucked into a last minute rental several years ago, when the prior renter backed out and the owner was looking for someone else to rent the reservation. it can happen but it's a fluke if it fits your dates - no changes could be made - and likely won't be available till the last minute...

if you're a DVC owner, get on the waitlist as soon as possible.

if you're hoping to rent...chalk it up to a learning experience and plan farther ahead. december is an extremely busy season for DVC...and the smaller resorts book up within 10-11 months out.

most owners won't bother with waitlisting for renters because it's unlikely to come through and too risky that they might back out at the last minute - effectively wasting their pts - if it did come through.

Yes, there are cancellations. There are also waitlists, so make sure you are on a waitlist or 2 to take advantage... Try to piece together a trip (even if it means moving resorts several times) if you need to book airfare..
I think 30 days out typically becomes the greatest cancellation window (a 30 day cancelled reservation becomes more restricted holding points, so people may release unsure trips at 31 days..) For months prior to my Last October trip , there was nothing at AKV for my 2nd to last day. I did have a backup at OKW. 30 days out, my waitlist finally came through..

The other factor that might help you a little, AKV Kidani, BLT and SSR (THV) are in active sales (which means not all occupiable units are available for members to book on points), so as more members buy into DVC, a little more availability will open up to members...
