Cancellation question?

We may have to cancel our upcoming trip. We will be more than 31 days out so that won't be an issue. I know that all borrowed points will remain in the current use year that they were borrowed into. What I am confused about is do we have to book and use those points by the end of this use year (Dec.) or can we just make a reservation in this use year but travel in the next use year?

I would call DVC but they are already closed for the day, but I knew the experts on the Dis would be able to help me out.

Thank you!

Darn, that's what I was afraid of. Well hopefully something will work out we do have awhile before they expire.

Sorry to hear you had to cancel but I am glad to hear that you have time to hopefully reuse the points.

We haven't had to cancel yet, just preparing for the worst and trying to get an idea for plan B. There's still hope!

An exception might be depositing the points into RCI. Then they can be used at a later date (but not at DVC resorts).

That's a great idea, thanks for the tip!
IF you take RCI as an option, you should consider depositing 160 or 270 points to make them fully usable with an RCI exchange. You could also rent them, use for a cruise, CC, DC, etc. Or better yet, hopefully you won't have to cancel.

If we put the points in RCI do we still have to use them by the end of the use year or do we have more time?

You'll have until 2 years from the date of the week deposited to travel. REalistically you want to look for things now so you have a chance at getting a comparable exchange.

What a relief to know I don't have to try and use them all before Dec. if we do have to cancel. To do the exchange there is a $95 fee? I can live with that.
