Cancellation/Postponement advice

Hi guys,

Hope some of you can give me an insight into cancellation/postponement policy.
We've booked with first choice for sep 07 POFQ, but we may have a few large expenses coming up and aren't sure if we can fully justify the holiday now!

We paid £640 deposit, and I'd like to know how you go about cancelling or postponing a holiday, and also what penalties you incur. My DH has a lot of medical problems so we could maybe cancel on health grounds, but as we haven't purchased insurance yet it would have to be worth our while as his insurance usually costs £300 +.
Also what time scale do we have to play with? I assume we have until about 2 months before without having to pay more (and lose deposit?).

The other option is to postpone it until 2008 but again I'm unsure of the costs involved and if there are any limits to dates.

if they are like virgin holidays, if you transfer it to another time there would be a £20 per person admin fee. Hope you get it sorted to your advantage

I think you are best off talking to your travel agent or tour operator as soon as possible to talk through your options.

...as long as you don't leave it too near the date of travel, most firms will let you defer a holiday (though you may have to have new dates to give them) for a relatively small fee rather than lose part of, or the whole deposit.

The earlier you speak to them, the more options you are likely to have .....possibly even transfering to a cheaper holiday (either in Orlando or possibly in the Med for example instead)... who knows till you ask ?


- if you haven't arranged travel insurance yet, then I don't see how you could claim off this without commiting fraud.
I don't mean to lecture you in any way, but it does highlight the importance of taking out holiday insurance when you book, rather than when you travel, particularly when large amounts of money are involved (not that you can normally claim for lack of finances though !).

Really hope you get something sorted soon....... and well done you in making what must be a very difficult decision ..but a good one , if it means that you do not get yourself into debt situation which is going to be difficult to manage.

we lost our depoist last year from cancalling our hoilday

travel companys have everything covered to cover them selvers
if you booked throught a travel agent you might have a bit of luck ,but I booked on line and had no one to hrlp
