Cancellation Policy Clarification

I know DCL’s updated cancellation policy has probably been discussed ad nauseam at this point, but it hasn’t applied to me yet so I honestly haven’t paid enough attention to make sense of it. I think I understand but I’m not positive, any clarification would be much appreciated.

We’re booked on several sailings in the next year and a half, the first of which is November 6, 2021.

I want to PIF so I can try to book Palo (priorities!) and believe that their policy allows us to cancel and get the full refund of our PIF amount until 60 days out. I believe it also allows us to reschedule (not cancel) up to 15 days out? Do I understand that correctly? If we cancel between 15-60 days out, can the funds be applied to an already booked sailing or do I have to schedule a new one to use the transferred funds?

And lastly, if they cancel the sailing, and we get the much talked about 125% credit, I feel like I’ve read varied reports on if I can apply that credit to already booked sailings or only book a new sailing with it? Can I apply it to multiple already booked sailings or only one?

Sorry for what I am sure is a much discussed topic in the past, I’m a little late to the party with my first cancellation and want to make sure I’m getting current information.

Unfortunately, I won't be much help, but I can understand your concerns.

According to the notice, if you cancel before the 60 days, you will be able to receive the full payment back, regardless of if it's just a deposit or full payment. But once you enter the 60 days prior and before 15 days prior, you're only recourse is to transfer the cruise to a different date (I think it said before Sep 2022) in order not to be charged cancellation fees.

And that's as far as they seem to be announcing.

Sometimes I think DCL prepared this plan without looking further or different options. And then they have to backtrack and add restrictions because they didn't think people would have numerous ideas for solutions.

I hope you get a lot of replies with first hand knowledge. I'd be interested as well.

FCC can definitely be applied to existing sailings. I've done that myself. I believe it can be split among more than one sailing, but I'm not sure about that as I have not done that myself.

You can split FCC among multiple booked cruises. I split mine on 2 cruises. It can be used on already booked cruises - I had no issues applying it to an already booked cruise.

I'm glad you asked! I've been wondering the same things this week. We are booked on the 10/8 Dream cruise, and I've been thinking I may pay in full this week. We have a Wish cruise booked next August, so it would be ok if I ended up with FCC I could transfer to that cruise. I do wonder if the funds could be applied to that cruise if the cruise ended up going, but we cancelled between 15-60 days.

I am not 100% sure on this but I had the same dilemma with my September 4 cruise which I just cancelled a few days ago.

This is the wording from the website:
  • Guests who wish to change their sail date must move their sail date to one that commences prior to September 30, 2022. Standard prevailing rates will apply. Future cruise credits cannot be applied to the Disney Wish maiden voyage, setting sail on June 9, 2022.
  • Should you cancel your new sail date, cancellation fees will be the greater of: a) cancellation fees that would have been applicable to the original sail date; or b) cancellation fees applicable to the new sail date.
I read this has you have to book a new cruise. I assume that is to make sure everything stays the same. Kind of like how concierge can be moved but it has to be a new cruise so the policies remain in effect. The reservation number will remain the same, it will just be transferred to a new sailing.

Since I have 3 cruises booked for next year and they have all gone up quite a bit in price, I figured I was better off cancelling the September 4 cruise and getting my money out to put towards those cruises rather than rebooking at the new rate. But I will wait to see if this ship sails. If it goes and the restrictions aren't too crazy, I'll just rebook it since the pricing is the same.

If DCL cancels your cruise, you will get the 125% which can be applied to one (or several) cruises, as long as they leave before September 30, 2022.

Personally, I think November cruises will be sailing. I have nothing to base this on other than the CSO is expiring, cases continue to decline and DCL is working to staff their ships. So cancellation doesn't seem probable but it is certainly possible. The bigger question is what are the restrictions going to be and will that be worth it to you?

I was PIF for my September cruise for the same reasons you are considering. Unfortunately, it got too close for my comfort, so I went ahead and cancelled. I would rather take my chances on a Palo reservation when I got on the ship than have to pay more for the rebooked cruise next year. I probably would have kept the reservation if I didn't have cruises booked already and if there wasn't a big price difference.

Fortunately, based on the new policy, you have until September 6 to decide if you want to keep the cruise. And I am fairly certain a lot more info. will be available by then. If you are ok with paying in full, there is no harm in doing that. That will allow you to book your activities and you can watch the prices on the other cruises you have booked and decide when you get closer to September if the tradeoff will be worth it.

Sorry so long but I hope this helps.

Does anyone have any experience moving a 2022 cruise with the current policies? I'm getting less and less confident that the January 2 cruise I'm on will be mask free. Too much vacation money to spend for that kind of restriction. It is paid in full since it's a concierge cruise moved from the original date of July 2020 and then the second date of July 2021. The current wording says you can move trips that are booked through December 30, 2021. Any idea if I'll be stuck with this January cruise?

It's hard to say if they will extend that offer through January. I would say there's a decent chance, though it will be less likely to be extended once they start sailing. My guess is they keep offering that flexibility because they haven't announced the restrictions yet and they are trying to give people time to make a decision once they are announced. Once there are formal protocols and people are aware of them, the flexibility option probably goes away.

My understanding with concierge is you can move the cruise to a later date without any penalties as long as you do it before the penalty period begins which I believe is 90 days before sailing? But as it stands, you can move the cruise any time between now and October 2 and not lose your deposit. You just have to book another cruise and all rules will be transferred with that booking. I think someone with more concierge experience should be able to confirm this for you.
