Cancellation deadline question

I have 40 points borrowed from April 2022 use year. If I make a reservation for January 5th, when do I need to cancel by to not lose them or have them go into holding?

By Dec 5 would avoid holding, but you would still need to use those borrowed points for a reservation that occurs and is completed before April 1, 2022, because they cannot be sent back to their original use year.

The rule is at least 31 days prior to the start of the trip. As already mentioned, it would avoid holding, but not the expiration of the points on March 31st, 2022. Avoiding holding would simply allow you to book something more than 60 days from check in.
