I really can't believe I did this. I had a reservation that I was holding for a weekend in November. I paid for the deposit with a $100 GC and the rest on a credit card. I knew that I would possibly be changing or canceling it, so I wrote the details on the back of the GC so I would know which one would be refunded. (I can't bring myself to throw away any Disney GCs until there is absolutely NO chance of needing them for refunds).
I'm sure you are seeing where this is leading. I cancelled over the weekend and rebooked with a slight change of dates. I was told my original form of payment would be refunded. No problem, all my GC's are in the drawer. Of course, when I looked in the drawer, I have a stack of 18 GCs, but NOT the one that I needed! I am guessing I put it somewhere else for "safekeeping."
After turning the house upside down, I finally emailed Disney to see if they could help me. I got this response back
Typically, when a Disney Gift Card is used for payment on your vacation
package, you will be issued a new Disney Gift Card in the appropriate
amount. You will not need to produce the previously used gift card to
obtain your refund.
Is this new??? I always was under the impression that you need to have the old one to be refunded.
Thanks for any insight you may have!
