Canceling hotel via Getawaytoday?

I'm close to booking our trip, and GAT has the best price on hotel and tickets. However, there's still that little part of me that hopes Disney will have a summer hotel offer and we will be able to stay on site. I'd need to cancel the hotel portion of our GAT package in that case, and I'm worried it will cost us money and/or not go well. We will also be buying a San Diego hotel package, presumably through GAT, and I can imagine all kinds of nightmarish situations where they cancel the wrong hotel, cancel both hotels, etc. Can anyone share their experiences canceling part or all of a package through GAT?

Oh, and I've tried emailing GAT but they haven't replied. That's not a good sign. I've bought tickets and hotel through them before, and had a great experience, I just haven't canceled anything.

Thanks!!

There's a "piece of mind" insurance for like $10 where you can cancel. Not sure the particulars, hopefully someone that's looked into it further can help.

This is from their Terms & conditions on their site:
Reservations may be changed or cancelled by calling Get Away Today at least 72 hours in advance of check-in date. Some hotels require 5 - 7 days advance notice.
Any change made inside the 72 hours may result in loss of one night. Some hotels require 5-7 days notice to avoid the loss of the first night. Reservations made for travel within 72 hours are non-refundable.

Nancy drew, I would suggest instead of emailing them to call them on their 1800 number. I booked a trip with them way back in February, 2012, then changed the trip 4 times, then I had to cancel the trip all together. (FIL has stage 4 lung cancer). Every time I called, they were so friendly. When I can think about planning another trip, I will definitely use them again. The cost of the trip insurance is $30 and worth every penny! GAT usually has a code that gives you $10 off. I can't say enough of how kind they were on the phone and helped with changing the trip, then canceling. You might not have to cancel your trip because GAT will match prices. Have a fun trip! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies.

3Minnies1Mickey, I did see their policy, but I hoped to hear some real life experiences because I know with cancellations there are often loop holes or other forms of trickery used where people end up paying full price or something crazy. Not specifically with GAT, but I've heard horror stories and I was hoping to avoid that by asking for actual experience. :)

azdisneylover, Thanks. I'll call them when I'm ready to book. Getting really excited!!!
