Canceling and Borrowed Points

Ok, so I am in desperate (that may be a slight exaggeration ☺️) need of some help. In March I booked (actually our first trip with our membership) a vacation for November. In one part of our split stay we were getting a larger class room than we usually use so I borrowed 50% of points from next year. I found out today that I may need to change our reservations. I looked at the calendar for March and the rooms we need are available. So, I need to cancel our November plans. (Someone waiting for a Copper Creek 1 bedroom for 3 nights is going to be very happy. As is a Poly Lake view person.). Maybe I should mention that I have an April UY. But I need to understand what happens with the points. This leads to a number of question:
1. Are all of the points (including borrowed) returned to my account for this use year? Or, are this years points returned to this year and the borrowed points returned to their original year.
2. Are the points available to use right away? If I cancel can I turn right around and book the new rooms while they are available.
3. I am a heathen (jjk) white card owner. If borrowed points are returned to their original year is it possible for me to borrow my needed points online with the glitch or should I just try to call Member Services?

I really did try to figure this out before asking, I am sure something similar has been asked 1,376,284 times before - but I am just still a bit confused. So…I truly appreciate any help.

1. Borrowing is a FINAL transaction. They will stay in this UY April 2021 and not return to the original UY. They will need to be used by March 31 2022.
2. Yes
3. Won't matter. You won't reborrow as they will remain in in April 2021 UY

If you borrowed points, they will not "unborrow", when you cancel. They are returned to you in the use year your reservation was in.

Agree with @starry_solo I would modify my existing reservation unless I was 100% sure I wasn’t going to be using it. I suppose if you’re definitely canceling the earlier trip it won’t matter but you could be left without either if you cancel and the room you want disappears. Also if you have extra points left because the new reservation takes less you could bank this years points into next year. The system will use the borrowed points first and then you could bank what’s left for a trip next year or before April 1.

As mentioned, those borrowed points are stuck so they are use or lose by March 31st, 2022.

Just remember that if something happens and you have to cancel that March trip after your November 30th deadline, any 2021 UY points you have will also have to be used by the end of March.

Traveling in the last month of the UY is tricky as sometimes things happen out of your control. Not that there is much you can do about that since you already borrowed the points, buy keep in mind.

You May want to look into the DVC travel insurance as it does covers your dues if that trip has to be canceled…

You are all awesome! I knew I would get the answer quickly. The answers were exactly what I was hoping! I knew that we are cutting it close with the end of the UY - but in this case it couldn’t be helped. I did not even think about just modifying the current reservations. Once again, you are the best. Thanks
