Canceling a reservation?

What is the policy on a cancelled reservation with dvc? Do you lose the points?

Depends on when it was canceled, the status of the points, and their UY.

When a reservation is canceled the points are returned to your account. If 30 days or less before arrival they are Holding points and can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of arrival. They will expire at the end of their Use Year.
If canceled 31 days or more before arrival they are returned to your account to be used or banked per normal policies.
