I booked a new resort reservation this morning, then canceled another one. I was just altering our nights and didn’t alter the original reservation, just canceled it outright.

Upon canceling I got a message that all fast passes associated with the reservation had been canceled. Now, I immediately checked and they actually had not been canceled, a relief as I had a hard time getting SDD and FOP FP+.

Just posting this here as I thought fast passes remained linked to your account even if you cancel your room. Is this wrong? Is this a sign of a policy change?

Attaching a photo of the message.

You have to have valid ticket media linked to your account in order to avoid FP+ cancellations. If you cancel a room reservation or package, as long as you have tickets linked to your MDE profiles, FP+ won't go away. If someone cancels a package with tickets and doesn't have tickets linked very soon after they've cancelled that package, yeah, the FP+ will go away. Rule of thumb before cancelling is to have valid tickets linked prior to cancelling.

My tickets are linked, I guess that’s why they remain. But then why the message?

I got the same message when I canceled a resort reservation about a week ago. Luckily, I had made a new resort reservation before I canceled the old one. I think that is what saved me.

I have an AP linked to my account.

Could it be because the FP were outside of 30 days and for the brief reservation switch the system didn't register it as an onsite stay?

ETA was posting at the same time as others. Should have known it was just a weird MDE fluke (pretty much the explanation for every problem).

I see what you all are saying about linked tickets. But I think the message should be a bit clearer. I cannot tell you how much energy and time it took to get SDD and FOP this trip. I nearly had a heart attack!

ETA: if you don’t have tickets attached, I thought you can’t make FP at all. So presumably this would apply to anyone canceling a resort stay?

Because they haven't gone to the trouble to write 2 different messages based on if you booked a package with or one without tickets. And then having the system checking to see which you have and then giving you the message that matches.
They wrote 1 message and give it to all who cancel, even AP holders who have FP based on their AP, not package tickets.

And then you have roughly 24 hours, or at least till the overnight refresh, to get tickets added, before the FP are cancelled. It's not been instant in the past.

Not everyone with a resort stay has a package with tickets. Many people do room only stays and have tickets or annual passes purchased separately and linked to the account. In this case the resort stay could be cancelled, but the FPs should remain, given that the tickets are still present.
