Canceled - Does anyone know...

Decided to cancel our Dec 7/02 western cruise and go with RCCL Voyager of The Sea in Jan/03. As much as I love Disney and the Magic, I decided we should try another cruise line. Then we actually have something to compare. Also, the price is quite a bit cheaper. For anyone who has canceled with DCL, how long does it usually take before they credit you with the deposit?

As much as I love Disney, I have to recommend that you see the ice show on Voyager...you will love it! It was so good that we saw it twice. And the parades down the "street" are very cool too (the balconies give you a great vantage point). Just don't expect Disney-sized cabins unless you are in a suite!! Definitely give the rock wall a try (the view is spectacular, even if you only make it partway up), and take a photo at the "King of the World" observation point!
I realize I haven't answered your question at all, but seeing that you are taking Voyager brought back some fun memories of our trip on that ship. I don't know if they still do the same itinerary, but if so, be aware that Labadee is NOT a private island like Castaway Cay (or RCCL's other island, CocoCay), even tho' it is billed as such. Be prepared to be solicited for money and also grabbed in the marketplace.

I'm sorry to hear we won't be cruising together, Jo-Anna, but I understand wanting to try Voyager.

It usually takes 1-2 billing cycles for your credit to show up on your credit card statement from DCL.

Barb - Thank you! I really know I made the right choice. I too love Disney, but thought it might be nice to try something new, and have heard rave reviews about the Voyager, also, the price was much cheaper. I actually think my kids are going to have more fun on this ship than Disney. They will love to roller blade, skate, and try the rock climbing. Do you know what they charge for rental fees for the roller blades or skates, and would you happen to know if they have kids sizes, or should we bring theirs? What cabin did you have on the Voyager? The last cabin we had on the Magic was 5520, do you know if the outside cabins with balconies are smaller. Also, where do the kids sleep? I definately will be checking out the ice show as I am an ex-figure skater, maybe I will try a little skating myself.

We had to pay for the extra activties, but I've heard that it's all included now...you might want to doublecheck that on the Cruise Critic message boards tho'. Even when we had to pay, I don't think it was that much...maybe $3 for mini-golf and skating and $8 for the rock wall. I saw kids skating so I think they have all sizes. Just beware...if it is still like it was back then, people were absolutely CRAZY on the ice, and although there were "guards," they pretty much looked the other way. I am not a good skater, so I just hugged the wall for safety. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to "skate on the ocean!"
We had a balcony cabin and it was still smaller than Disney's. However, we met some people who had a suite and it was HUGE, so it will depend on what category you have. I think ours was the cheapest or second cheapest balcony category. They also have staterooms with windows that look out onto the "street," but people in those said they can be rather noisy.
Another thing to check out is the 24-hour snack bar on the "street." They had the best sandwiches and baked goods...mmmm! Our stateroom was only a couple of decks above it, so it was way too convenient to run down there for a bite. Speaking of food, the lunches were excellent but the dinners were not...I'm thinking the food may have improved by now, since RCCL usually has very good meals. We were on one of the first cruises, so I suspect that might have been "growing pains" while learning how to feed so many people.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our 3 day cruise in October. The CM on the phone told me it would be 4-6 weeks before we received the refund. It was only two weeks before our credit card had the credit on it. Of course, the exchange rate is always LOWER than when you put the deposit on the card! Oh well, it was only a few dollars

I agree I also want to book a Western cruise with another cruise line. Mainly due to in about two weeks I will be on my second Disney 3 day cruise and I just think after two Disney cruises I will have seen the shows they offer enough. I ready think Disney should offer different shows on each ship but that's just MI.

Aww, I am sorry to hear that you canceled, MickeyCanada. After sailing with you on the cruise in September and not even knowing it, I was hoping to meet you this December when we were coincidentally cruising together again!

I have to admit, though, that the RCL cruise does look like fun! I wouldn't mind trying it out, but my husband has said that because of how well DCL took care of us during the 11th, we will never cruise another line (we were on a Carnival cruise 8 years ago and not treated well, so he was really impressed with DCL). Oh well, I guess I shouldn't complain, right?

I hope you have a wonderful time, perhaps we will meet up on another cruise!

We went on the VOS in Nov. and are actually going again in 3 weeks. We had an outside cabin with a balcony and it was quite nice,just a little smaller. It was configured differently than the Magic/Wonder with the couch and desk in the first part of the cabin and the bed near the balcony door. Which made it nice to have the door open and hear the sound of the ocean at night. We have 2 kids and they slept on the couch which converted into a double bed. The only extra charge we paid was for milkshakes at Johnny Rocket's(besides alcoholic drinks)..The word is that they have begun to charge for soft drinks in the dining room now..In Nov. they were free as well. My children actually enjoyed the kid's club on the VOS better than the Disney clubs. They can't wait to collect their cuopons,which they use at the end of the cruise to "buy" Adventure Ocean souvineers. If you have any more questions feel free to ask..
