cancelation of SWW and park planning?

I get to make my ADRs in the AM.
I chose my days based on park recommendations of UG/KtP/Josh... Of course each of them took SWW into account as they made their recommendations.

Will NO SWW dramatically change the recommendations?

This whole "Lock It In" stuff gets more and more irritating as WDW doesn't seem to care too much about locking it in on their end.

We are going in May.
Maybe Soarin' will be open by then. Maybe not.
Maybe Frozen/Norway will be open. Maybe not.
Maybe AK will have a night time show. Maybe not.

BUT - if I don't make my (hot ticket) ADRs in the morning, I may not get them.

I guess this turned into more of a gripe.

Back to my question.

Do you all think this will dramatically change park planning?

It will only make HS somewhat less crowded, but I doubt it will have a heavy impact. If you were avoiding HS on weekends to avoid the SWW crowds, then you might not have to worry about that too much. Then again, if you don't need to switch days for any reason, then you should be fine with what you have.

At least they put the word out 180 days before hand... that's a step in the right direction instead of waiting until March or April to announce it.

You have a point. I do now have a day to change course.

I have a good back up plan with ADRs... But it's not the most favored one...

Looks like we're going a day after you. We're not really worried about SWW, but the rest of the maybe/maybe not is making me crazy.

I'm going the day after you as well. I thought that the crowd calendars were based on the assumption SWW weren't happening based on DHS having PM EMHs on Friday 5/13?
This changes things for my family because DH was planning to take DS to this the last day of our trip. The only good thing for us is that I think now by switching my EP & DHS days I don't have to worry about AM EMH. Trying to focus on the positive.

My ADR date is next week. We'll be moving our itinerary around too.

HS won't be a full day for us anymore. With all the closed attractions and construction I think we'll split the day with AK.

Since there's no SWW we're going to go to Universal. We haven't seen Harry Potter since they opened the new section.

It's really fabulous. I am not the biggest HP fan, seen the movies/haven't read the books yet. However, we were totally blown away. I don't think we can go to Orlando without going to Universal now. Have a good trip.

I'm the same way about Universal. So much fun.

As for DHS, I'd probably completely skip it again. I just don't see much there that we haven't done plenty. We can spend just a few hours and see all that we enjoy.

Otherwise, it would be hard to plan if you're going in May! I hadn't even thought about that.

While I understand the frustration, especially when spending tons of money to visit, keep in mind there is active construction for all of these projects (well, not yet for Soarin'.) I'm sure Disney wants these attractions opened ASAP, but it is impossible to predict, especially 6 months out, exactly what day the construction/testing will be done and the rides can open.

I "solved" my problem by making a ridiculous amount of ADRs to cover the what-ifs.

Try to keep in mind that everything at WDW is subject to change at the last minute. They always seem to be tweaking this and adjusting the hours for that. I've been at the parks when they have decided to extend hours. Make your plans the best you can, but be prepared to go with the flow if you can.

I agree with this BUT as a party of 10 it's not as easy.

Honestly? Go with your best guess and make ADRs for that. "Solving" your problem by hoarding ADRs just makes more problems for other guests. Plus, do you really want to have to try and remember to cancel all of those??? Miss just one, and that is $100 out of your pocket.

But I WILL want that 8:05 Akershus if Frozen/Norway is open, etc.

Actually, the last time I made mention of the ADR problem to a Cast Member on the reservation line, her suggestion was to do just that, but an ADR for every contingency.
