we are supposed to leave on sunday. what happens if you cancel the trip? i did purchase the insurance. hubby's business is horrible right now - something i was not aware of until friday!

we had to do the same thing last year. ours was about 30 days out, so im not sure there is a difference, i called and cried the whole time..... but we got everything back except the cost of the insurance.

im sorry, i know its hard.... its hard to see it now but everything happens for a reason...

i couldnt see it then, but when i was able to rebook for next year, we got such an amazing deal with so much upgraded from the last time.

good luck!

You should be able to cancel -- there might be a penalty depending on what you have booked (package vs. room) and whether you booked through Disney or someone else.

Sorry you have to cancel {{hugs}}. I think there is a $200 penalty for cancellations 6 days and less.

i just called to find out (and cried the whole time, lol). she gave me the # for the insurance place.

that lady said it does cover job loss (technically not our situation since hubby owns his own business) - you need a letter from company stating how long he was employed and that he was terminated and/or laid off - hubby is a BIG rule follower and lying isn't even an option for him! she also said the claim takes 2-6 weeks and it's no guarantee that you will get your money back!!!!

also, i booked a packed direct w/ disney and it included air... so i would have to pay i think $75 per ticket to change them and i believe they have to be used w/in a year!

so if i cancel i'm out $300 for changing air, $200 deposit, whatever the cost of insurance was (i think $140ish) AND there is no guarantee that we'd get reimbursed! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dunno what we are going to do - probably still go and try to enjoy ourselves worrying about what we are going to do w/ our business the whole time....

i've been crying for hours!

It stinks that you are out $650 just for canceling! Maybe cut out all the extras you were going to splurge on? Can you downgrade to a different resort? It might be worth a call and they *may* not charge you a change fee if you ask to speak to a manager and plead your case.

Yes, trip insurance is very specific. It doesn't mean you can change your mind and they will pay you back, even if your financial situation has changed. Since your husband has not lost his job, then they will not reimburse you. Did you get an insurance pamphlet? It should tell you what's covered.

I am sorry that you are going through this. The two of you should sit down and figure out what it will cost to cut your losses vs. going on the trip anyway. Good luck and I hope things look up for you both very soon.

edited to add:

It's not lying, it's called "insurance fraud." I wouldn't even consider it.

Hey! Sorry about you needing to cancel your trip. THe rule is that you will lose $200.00 if you cancel 6 days before or less. You will also lose the insurance.

Do you mind if I ask you where in the UP you are from. I may have asked you before. But, my entire family lives up there in Engadine! Just seeing if you were from around there.

I was wondering if Anyone has been able to not cancel but just push their trip
forward a few weeks or even months. Our trip is paid for already but I'm if an emergency came up could it just be rescheduled??
