Cancel Reservation - Question

A friend of mine is thinking about joining us for a few days for our December trip and we are going to book their room for them using our points.
She and her husband are in the process of trying to get pregnant so she has concerns about booking a trip this far in advance.

Am I correct in my understanding that as long as we cancel her reservation at least 31 days in advance that my points will just go back into my account in the appropriate UY - not in holding, etc.

I'm sure that we'll know way before 31 days if they need to cancel or not, but I also don't want to lose any points.

You are correct. You also have to watch your banking window if you want to bank the points for a future trip. If your use year is February or March, you may want to cancel a bit earlier than 31 days if you need to bank your points.

We do have a Feb UY so I'm hoping that they will make their decision by the end of August but I guess time will tell

Just remember that if you borrow any points those will expire January 31st regardless of when you cancel as borrowed points remain in the UY that they have been borrowed in to.

So, we used some 2012 points and borrowed some from 2013...June UY...for a trip to VB for this coming August. We need to cancel and book a trip to WDW for Jan 2013. Will there be any problems doing this? TIA!

Shouldn't be. Jan 2013 is still in you June 2012 UY, just like August 2012. You just have to use those points before May 31, 2013, or the borrowed points will be lost. You could still bank the 2012 points, but you'd have to do that by Jan 31, 2013.
