Cancel Package But Keep FP?

Can you cancel a room and ticket package but keep your FP selections?

I'm planning a trip for my family and my SIL's family. SIL has a room and ticket package. I recently made all our FP selections. Orbitz is having cyber Monday sale with good hotel deals, so we'd like to change the resort reservations. How can we do this without losing our FP selections?

I think you have to have tickets loaded on your account that aren’t linked to your package. If it’s between the 60 and 30 day window, I think you’d also need to have the room only reservation on the account. But not sure on that part.

If you cancel your package, by the next day you’ll lose all your FPs unless you link new valid tickets to each Profile.

So does this sound like what we need to do in order to keep the FPs?
Link the Orbitz resort reservations to MDE.
Buy tickets and link those to MDE.
Then cancel the package?
