Cancel package and not lose FP+?

I think we are going to have to cancel the package I have reserved. It is just going to be too much $ and I need to cut back on some expenses. I don’t know where we will stay yet, but we will need to buy tickets when we cancel the package. We have FP plus reserved based on the package. Final payment on the package is November 17th so I have to figure out my plan B quickly. Is there any way to pull this off without losing the FP plus we have scheduled?

First, you absolutely need to have tickets already loaded into your account that will cover all of the FP days.
Will you be rebooking at an onsite hotel or offsite? If onsite, you should have that booked before you cancel the package, or book immediately after cancelling it. Then there won't be issues.
For offsite, I believe you can keep the FPs but won't be able to modify them until the 30 day mark. So they should be locked in for the 60-30 days.

You can either modify your package to something less expensive (if available) or purchase tickets and link them to MDE prior to cancelling. As long as there are tickets linked to MDE, you can preserve your FP+.

I'll be watching this thread as I'll be consolidating a couple of our reservations. I don't want to lose their FPs because we simply moved people to another reservation.

After FPs have been booked, changing a reservation does not affect FPs as long as valid tickets remain linked to the Profiles.

It’s the linked ticket entitlements that keep the FPs intact. The onsite reservation only opened the FP booking window.

Thank you. I already have one 4 day non hopper assigned to one of the college age kids that couldn’t make our trip two years ago. I will have to purchase 4 more 4 day non hoppers before -or as- I cancel the package. There are five adults in our family, so things are always a bit sticky about where to stay. Since we are going the week before Christmas, there is fairly limited availability onsite that would actually save me much money. On the other hand- it isnt really necessary to save money so much as to push back the necessity to pay for it all upfront by November 17th.

I have a great package that I really was looking forward to, but it seems unlikely I will get paid in time to make the final payment date. I am probably going to wait as long as I can to cancel without losing my deposit, but want to have my plan B ready to put into action quickly.

If the vacation planned is truly affordable and it is just a cash flow issue, there are a couple of options. First, try calling and seeing if you can arrange a later final payment date. No guarantees but Disney wants your money and they may be willing to make arrangements.

Second, do you have a Disney Visa card? One of the perks is free financing for 6 months on Disney vacation packages. I have no idea if you could get a new account set up by Nov 17 but it seems possible. Then you would have the next 6 months to pay it off without an additional cost.

You could also switch it to room only with tickets separate. RO reservations only require a one night deposit until check in.

If you apply now you could get the Disney Visa in plenty of time and the free financing for 6 months is nice. I used it once on a Halloween trip and paid it off with the income tax refund.

Thank you for the ideas. I don't have a Disney Visa and don't want to apply for another credit card at this point- although that is a good and creative idea that would push the cash outlay back some. I am assembling all the pieces individually now and appreciate the advice. Luckily we are veteran and pretty able to roll with the flow when it comes to Disney.

So if we need to cancel an onsite room ressie to save some $$ and stay offsite, if we do that within the 30 day window allowed by our APs the FPs will stay there, correct?

I don’t think having the AP matters. Once the FPs are booked, you don’t lose them no matter how many days in advance of your onsite stay you’ve booked/canceled.

OK- understand the FP part. We also have a bunch of ADRs as well. Does this apply to them as well- or will we lose them?

@Happy_2_B ~ ADRs are not tied to any type of accommodation. They are available to any guest who wants a dining reservation. You’ll be fine.
