We were planning on going to WDW in January for the small crowds, but now that they have the good codes and we can get a room at AKL for $119 we are thinking about going mid December.. If we make a reservation before the 9/23 deadline and then change our minds, is there a fee to change our dates until January????

And how are the crowds in mid-December???

Hey Jon99, we have went many times to the WDW and in my opinion you should be just fine in mid-Dec. Just remember the closer to the Christmas the busier it will be. We have been in mid-Dec. and have had a great time with very low crowds except of course on the weekends when most of the locals will be there. Honestly though you should have a great time with light crowds. Hope this helps, and have a great time!! Chip.

Oops, sorry forgot about your other ? about the fee! You may want to call CRO or whoever you booked your stay with to help you with that 1!! Good luck, Chip.

If you made a room only reservation I don't think there's a fee to change you ressies. I changed mine by a day (the day before we were supposed to go!) and almost had to completely change them but there was no fee.

Keep in mind though...There may be different rates in mid December and of course, there has to be availability. Be flexible with resort choice and "view" at the resort itself.

Mid December, before Christmas is a great time to go because WDW is decked out in the holiday fare and has different holiday events going on. This is also a "less" crowded time. There should be some good rates going on since it is value season.

We were there last year the first few days of Dec. and even over the weekend the crowds weren't bead.

We're heading there ourselves in early December again.

If you make a room only ressie through CRO then the cancelation policy should be that you up until 5 days before check-in to cancel without lossing your one night deposit. If you cancel your stay within the 5 day limit then you would loss your one night deposit.

The WDTC has different deposit and cancelation policies so make sure to ask when you call. I always state that I want to book a room only ressie with the 5 day cancelation policy when I call.

Good luck.

We had a two night reservation at POFQ for early December made with the DC discount for $236, but when I heard of the $85 plus tax rate on the Disney website I made that one and canceled the DC ressie that I made through Disney Travel on the same call to CRO. Within four days Disney Travel had posted the refund on my first ressie to my CC. Of course, the deposit for the second ressie showed up the next day. :)

The CM told me that as long as I canceled more than 5 days before arrival, my deposit would be refunded.

We often go in early December so I can't comment on mid December, but I believe that the real crowds don't show up until closer to Christmas. We really enjoy the early December time because it's not too busy and the decorations are up. The weather is also generally nice. The worst we have experienced at that time was rain, but the weather was mild, especially compared to CT!!! Osborne Family Lights at MGM is a must see and visits to the resorts to see the decorations is also fun. We try to schedule a few dinners at the resorts to see them.

If you book through the special on the WDW website (I did!), there is a 46 day cancellation policy. If you need to completely CANCEL your ressie within 45 days of your stay, you lose your deposit (one nite + tax)...however, you can CHANGE your ressie at anytime. (This is in the small print - and I confirmed with CRO)

Hope this helps. Lisa

There would be a fee to cancel the reservation if canceled before the cancelation deadline, 5 days for CRO reservations, and 46 days for WDTC reservations. You wouldn't be able to change the dates on the reservations since the $119 rate at AKL doesn't apply for dates in Jan. If there are codes released for Jan stays, you'd still have to cancel your original reservation and book a new one, using the new code rate. I hope that helps!!

Through CRO you won't lose your deposit even if you cancel after you get to that 5 day period IF you reschedule your trip. If you cancel all together then you would lose the deposit.

As I mentioned in my earlier post we did reschedule by only a day, originally checking in Sun and checking out Wed, changed to checking in Mon and out on Thurs. Even if I would have scheduled for months out I still wouldn't have lost the deposit although the rate may have changed. I had made my changes the day before (that Sat.) I was scheduled to originally check in.

Canceling before the 5 day window is fine and you will get a refund on your deposit.
